Book Reviewer: True Believer By Jack Carr

Upon reading True Believer one fact is certain,"nobody is above the law."

A nation of laws or a nation of men with justice as the prize is the main question.

If you're like me you enjoy a fab thriller. One that is superb in written format. One that keeps you on edge with plenty of nonstop nail biting action crafted around vibrant active characters.

For me this was too bland, too descriptive in weaponry, too specific in format to enjoy it fully.

I can say with certainty I'm not an Amazon Influencer and do not get paid to endorse any one thriller author and I say this after reading reviews that are squarely paged on this notion.

So for those who prefer an honest to goodness opinion you'll get it here without the fluff, without the hype, & without the sales aspect looming overhead.

I do hope you enjoy this but for me it was too much hype without the substance to back it all up.

Book Review: "The Giver Of Stars" By Jojo Moyes

“You know the worst thing about a man hitting you?” Margery said finally. “Ain’t the hurt. It’s that in that instant you realize the truth of what it is to be a woman. That it doesn’t matter how smart you are, how much better at arguing, how much better than them period. It’s when you realize they can always shut you up with a fist. Just like that.” She mulled over it for a Monet, then straightened up, and flashed Alice a tight smile. “Course, you know that only happens till you learn to hit back harder.”

Hit back harder should be Alice's middle name because she's one tough cookie.
Sure she married in hopes of a better life but it didn't turn out as expected so she began to deliver books with Eleanor Roosevelt's traveling library.

It can all be found in a book especially those interesting topics for discussion...

Let the mind wonder as I proclaim this book a true success in every format!

Book Review: "The Lying Room" By Nicci French

A mid life fling? A murder? A prime accomplice or a framing?

Well you might think all's well that ends well but don't jump to quick on that bandwagon as not everything is at it appears to be.

In fact our main gal isn't really guilty but then again it depends on your definition of guilt as we do have laws that prevent such conclusions before a day in court.

So back to basics shall we...

We have a married woman seeking companionship while in a failed marriage. She is wrapped up into the 'thrill' of the chase until the 'chase' ended.

It seems Saul has been murdered. The weapon was present for a time. The finger pointing especially around the work environment seems to point to one.

However, could there be more than meets the eye?

It's a tale of betrayal, lies, deceit, and if you will trickery.

Well folks that's all I have without spoilers so do me a favor and go out and read this one!

Book Review: "The Only Plane In The Sky" By Garrett M. Graff

Powerful! Sensational! Riveting!

The war was started upon our soil but hell hath no fury like the rage we experienced at those who subjected us to such heartbreak.

I have no words as a minister of hospitality other than to say forgiveness is needed in order to heal with so many young children left behind now orphaned, so many lives tragically ended, so many families uprooted as they are still trying to cope from this unspeakable tragedy.

This was pure terrorism and let it be known that Americans paid a hefty price at the hands of evil!

I was so moved beyond tears upon reading the 1st hand eyewitness accounts. The stories they told about unspeakable horror. The heartbreak bundled within each breath and each and every word.

I can't imagine having to receive that last phone call, the last moment in time etched in the memories of those who survived.

Sadly we remember fondly those who perished and we remember with love in our hearts as they left this Earth with courage. I will never forget my friend Leonard Synder who resided in Nj and was on the 101st floor working for AON Consulting on 9-11 ( a day forever etched into memory.)

Like many I worry. I worry for those who are left behind struggling to survive. I worry for those exposed to the elements as we now know- WTC illnesses.

I worry about the children and the permanent scarring, the PTSD upon adults, the trauma that those bystanders unaware of the doom that was about to come upon them.

Yet I hold hope in my heart that one day violence and terrorism will end. I hold hope for a brighter future for our children. I hold hope that love will find a way back into the hearts of many.

We cannot live in fear. We cannot hide. We cannot surround ourselves in a bubble.

What we can do is live our lives the way God intended and stand firm in our faith.

We must never forget those who perished. Those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Those brave and daring souls who risked their lives for the sake of others. Those who never said why me but instead put themselves in harms way to rescue one more person.

The memories are still vivid. My brothers both resided in Alexandria VA when the plane went into the Pentagon. My brother had a heavy heart and difficulty coping with the experience. He since moved to California.

I don't know how anyone can read these statements and recall those memories without thinking about our past history and our future progress.

I pray for our country and our nation. I pray for those risking their lives to keep our nation safe. I pray that we can all find that light and be a beacon of hope for others.

Wherever you are please keep shining your light. Lift others up. Help and love one another.

Book Review: "Under The Water" By Paul Pen

"What does the perfect family have to fear most? The perfect stranger."

That love to hate moment that looks appealing from afar but turns into a nightmare.

A perfect marriage isn't what it appears to be from the outside looking inward. An accident that looks innocent enough till you learn the back wash.

Be careful what you wish for as it might just come back to haunt your life. Karma!
Oh boy, where to even begin as we have this married couple (Frank & Grace) who ride off into the sunset with there two kids.

Oh until they come across a man ....or a woman ...Yes! It's a woman in the mid of the street.

From this point forward there's a series of misfortunes that struck this family. Poisonings, catastrophic accidents, bizarre behaviors.

I was ok with some not all of this till the midway segment when it went into this downward spiral of madness with the water coming into play.

I won't say much else but suffice to say the dialogue was rough! The women were not heroines but more like rag dolls. The male seemed to have his cake and eat it too.

Yet, in the end I suppose they all got what they deserved! Or did they?

Book Review: "My Way To You" By Catherine Bybee

When you base stories on real life circumstances it's hard to turn a blind eye even with fictional characters at the helm.
This is superb with heart pounding action throughout every facet of this amazing work.

Parker is our main character who rides the wave of stress all the way till the end with plenty to keep her busy.

 

Having lost her parents, taking over the parental responsibilities of siblings, and tending to the families property can be truly backbreaking work.

Needless to say she needs immediate intervention in many ways but romance wasn't on the radar.

At least not till Colin our public works supervisor arrived as a savior of Parker's property from not only the wildfire but impending mud slides that threaten normal living conditions.

I love the ending in which she's a hot mess but also the 

realization that,"sometimes it takes destruction to create something new."

Wow!!

Go out and get a copy of this must read by Catherine Bybee the first of the Creek Canyon series.

Book Review: "Right After The Weather" By Carol Anshaw

Weathering the storm or weathering oneself that's the question that's ultimately posed for thought.

While the writing was good it wasn't enough plot action to sink the reader's minds into the characters actions.

Why on Earth did Cate allow her ex spouse to move in with her when she herself struggles to make a living?

Why did Cate go chasing after a dead end lesbian relationship?

Why allow contact with a married ex girlfriend?

Why take on a job that won't fulfill the character's strongest points and lead nowhere?

It seems the main plot point is left behind for far too long and readers may find this a slow burn even with good writing skills attached.
