Book Review: "Cool For The Summer" By Dahlia Adler

Loved it!

Dahlia Adler is my new author to go to for fun in the summer sun and teenage angst in discovery of one's own sexual identity.

Heck, it's hard enough raising three teens much less trying to decipher where they may decide to go once they head on their own as adults.

This story combined a love triangle in the sense that there's been a pattern developing in play here and everyone seems to not want to admit to the truth-those pesky feelings and or emotions that're more than just lustful encounters.

I enjoyed the spin on this one between Chase and Lara and also with Jasmine and Lara. Ironically Jasmine wasn't initially interested in any advances. While Lara was still trying to decide if this sudden come-on- with Chase was worth it all.

Man alive 0o-Life is complicated- Oo.

Book Review: "The Address" By Fiona Davis

“Her mother’s suffering should have been warning enough, but Sara had convinced herself that her own story would have a different ending. No such luck. Men betrayed, women endured.”

― Fiona Davis, The Address

In keeping with tradition during this time period of the late 1880's we find that even up till today's standards women who don't go along to get along will be deemed crazy. If they speak out against abuse of injustice they will be deemed 'insane' and 'committed' to an asylum.
I've seen it happen. I've had 47 years of these toxic individuals and I know how the party gets going based on hearsay and never facts. You can ruin a woman's life in a matter of seconds, her career in a matter of minutes, her entire lifetime with the stroke of a pen.

Folks, we can go gaga over the historical piece, the architecture, the art but there's an underlying theme here and we must acknowledge the rights of all woman to be heard.
In fact the two women in Theodore's life need to be commended one for bearing child with a nut and the other for taking that trash to the curb forever.

The dual timeline from the 1880's and to the 1980's worked extremely well with these characters as they held their own quite deeply and created enough space to become absorbed in both settings.

The powerful dynamic at play and the equally inviting atmosphere coupled with the rising tension on both ends of the heated flame continued to escape to the point of getting burned in the end.

I absolutely enjoyed this so much that I went back and requested Fiona's previous work, The Dollhouse via my local library.

There's not one book of Fiona's that I've rated any less than a four star review and that's because she consistently raises the bar and elevates the excitement.

Thank you to my local library for providing this work during the pandemic.

Book Review: "Never Far Away" By Michael Koryta

Michael's books are like a glass of fine wine- it gets better with age and becomes more dynamic with each tweak of the pen.

Never Far Away was another heart stopping thriller that kept me glued upon the main character and her charades.
Leah Trenton aka Nina Morgan is at the helm steering this ship off course after witnessing a violent crime as both a wife and mother.

Ironically, a hitman has been hired to track her down named Dax Blackwell and he's hot on her tail.

She under the guise as Aunt Leah to her kids but heck, her own attorney was just killed so it may be time to pay the piper (if you get my drift).

As we hang on grasping for straws we encounter so many hidden traps and treacherous terrain that it reminded me of Meryl Streep in the '94 movie, The River Wild. I didn't know which direction to look at next as it became more and more appealing to all the senses.

Hey, I know one thing- this lady got guts! She's also a woman on a mission. You'll be damned if you double cross her.

You know speaking of that this also reminded me of Toby Keith's famous song- Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue song...'Cos we'll put a boot in your ass, it's the American way. Hey, Uncle Sam put your name at the top of his list, And the Statue of Liberty started shaking her fist. And the eagle will fly and it's gonna be hell, When you hear Mother Freedom start ringing her bell. And it'll feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you...."

Ahhh! This was heaven!

Thank you Michael Koryta, the pub, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for getting me out of this awful reader's slump for the past few weeks.

This was the perfect treat to start my week off on the right foot.

I highly recommend this newest epic thriller!

Book Review: "How Not To Drown" By Jaimee Wriston

OMG! I seriously need a vacay from my reader's slump!

I'm so sorry folks but this was another book that just didn't make the cut for me.
I'm not sure what to say that hasn't already been said but suffice to say this was plenty of fluff and meandering without much substance.

I'm not sure if editing would've helped in this case because I just couldn't get into the story about a grandmother taking care Heaven after her father's death. Gavin is deeply missed by his mother Amelia who now faces another challenge with her granddaughter's overweight bullying.
This was just bizarre and wasn't my cup of tea.

Thank you to Jaimee Wriston, the pub, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "The Dead Husband" By Carter Wilson

I'll reiterate: I'm in a reading slump and this book didn't help that feeling.

Sadly, I was under the assumption this would be more about Rosie being accused of the death of her husband as Colin was on fire in accusing her.

However, this was more about the family of Rose including her sis and her son and how both of them played a role with this controlling father of Rose's.

All in all it was ok but nothing that really stepped up to the plate and made me go crazy in love with it and unfortunately I need a good sparkler to play with at this point.

Thank you to Carter, the pub, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "Only You" By Cathryn Grant

Sadly, this is my reader's slump week and this book contributed to this continued feeling.

I'm sorry, but why was a fairy tale about Camille and Clementine even included?
The original story involving Hadley and her daughter Geneva would've been plenty on its own merit with everything that had been going on involving Faith.

There's just way too much going on and I couldn't get a grasp on this one from the start and it just fell apart for me after that as I simply couldn't read a fairy tale in a genre classified as a psychological thriller it just didn't work.

In fact, this is the first time I've ever rated one of Cathryn's books less than a 4 or 5 star review and it kills me to have to do this but sadly I have to be honest or else the review becomes meaningless.

Thank you to Cathryn, the pub, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "Flock" By Kate Stewart

HOLY SMOKES- God Forgive me for I think I just sinned! LOL!!

Ok, give me a second to chill....
That was smokin'

I'm not sure about these ravens but I'm darn sure of this: “If a man seems too good to be true, he usually is a liar.”
― Kate Stewart, Flock

In addition, I've led a very secluded life, strict Catholic upbringing so I apologize that I don't know anything outside of a monogamous relationship after my nightmarish eleven year marriage to a narc.
Don't laugh, but I had to google "polyamorous relationship" and since I'm a single mom of three teens and had no clue and since you might also live under a rock the quoted words mean: Multiple romantic relationships with consent of all people involved.

I mean did you know that 'ravens' mate for life? Or that they are intelligent? They always seem to be watching.

Now that we have that out of the way--HELLO KATE STEWART!
Welcome to this wonderful world of lust, love, companionship, and intimacy. On a side note, we'll toss in some flavorful situations in which these two men are quite the treat.
Knowledge is power. Intelligence is a must. Secrets are bound to happen.

Yet, Cecelia is the SECRET.

What?

Ok, look she's part of this plan but I can't divulge that plan. She works for her father. He's a sneaky son-of-a-gun and not everyone is happy with her father. In fact, there's several people who are on his tail.
These two men: Sean and Dominic are sexy, hot, and dangerous. Girl, you know damn well they be playin'.
Cecelia noted: "I can either become a part of the game or remain a pawn in it."
Run like hell girlfriend and don't look back...

"Drunk with lust and love I tap danced with the devil's tongue only to end up in his throat."
Hot-diggity-dog!

Cecelia listen to your own thoughts" I'll be a siren impossible to ignore."
Live and learn and on the way have some fun.

There may just be a cover-up concerning that man and his monopoly business that he's been running on the city.

I feel sorry for Dominic and his parents as they're part of this nightmare scenario turned ugly.
Used but not wasted.

Turn the zero into a hero and save yourself because their can be only one.
I've always loved learning the French language as you never know when the Frenchman comes into play. It's been a dream to meet one. Dreams are so elusive.

Who knows where it will lead but I'm certain I'll be following along and waiting with anticipation.
Thank you to Kate Stewart, the pub, NetGalley , and Amazon Kindle.
