Book Review: "The Orphan's Song" By Lauren Kate

"A song brought them together. A secret will tear them apart."

"Life was like music; if you changed a single note, you changed the entire song."

A trip to Venice has inspired the author to write about it's history, its culture, its orphanages.

While this was beautiful and awe inspiring the story started to falter for me with the execution.

It begins with a romance of sorts and a defiance by Violetta to form and mold her own rebellious ways all minor in substance until Mino came into her life as her first love.

A song tied them together however Incurables were taught to be obedient and chaste a mold she surely cannot endure over time.

The touching, the feeling, the emotions begin to stir as the passion is in her voice and Mino's hands.

It advances to Mino and Violetta being torn apart through distance but not for loss of thought.

Every moment is spent thinking of her and wondering how she is doing even after he marries and procures a child.

The familiar theme of love and romance felt more dark and isolated while the theme of abandonment, loss, and sacrifice took over. The entire twists with the past coming to head with the present was truly the spark that was needed here.

It began for me strong, subsided in the middle, and felt good in the end and I'm certain there will be more to come from this talented author for whom I'm just getting to know.
