“It didn't make no sense until it made the only sense.”
The more you understand your civil rights and your freedoms it appears the less you possess in this new work by Colson Whitehead.
These two young men of color were sent to a segregated reform school in Tallahassee Florida.
However they may call these young men students but in essence they were slaves that were forced to do as they were told in horrible conditions.
Just as Elwood is about to enroll to college he makes one wrong move that cost him his freedom being sentenced to juvenile reformatory at Nickel Academy.
While the mission statement sounds honorable this is a grotesque horrible sadistic and abusive location in which the boys if not reformed as sent 'out back' from the corrupt officials in charge.
This reminds me of something similar here in NEPA known as the Kids for Cash Scandal in which these young children were sent to juvenile detention facilities and never came out the same being permanently altered by their experiences.
