This is one of those books that you have to go slow, take time to process, gather your thoughts, and breathe.
Once you get beyond the point of no return you'll get anxious, perplexed, and start to convulse because rape is no laughing matter and neither is gaslighting, brainwashing, manipulation, or lovebombing.
Hovering is something you might think happens only in movies but we've seen predators prey on those they feel are lacking certain qualities or who are low on self esteem.
What we have here is a teacher in his mid 40's destroying a young female student going into her mid teenage years when she's most impressionable, nieve, and stressed.
Taking advantage of someone's emotions leaves her to feel insecure, abandoned, and lost.
It's downright maddening to see it play out and while the author stresses this is not a true story it's true to many who've lived it during the #MeToo & #TimesUp movements.
As it turns out sometimes the inner workings are stronger than the sexual desires and mental sickness or personality trait disorders leaving Jacob Strane to succumb to suicide at fifty nine years of age.
The other issue with Henry made me want to rip my hair out and go after the scum especially after the bs with Shane.
I wasn't a fan of the ending as the entire story from the beginning was strong; in fact for many reviewers who I enjoy reading their blogs noted it was simply too demanding upon them and they had to put it down for some time.
So, keep this in mind for those who are squeamish or triggered easily as it's very difficult to read.
I want to thank Bibliotheca (@smartlibraries) for this e-read available through using my local library card online. I was able to capture an earlier than projected read by several days with them.
