Book Review: "Trial By Fire" By Scott James

The deadliest single building fire in modern American history and the nation's deadliest rock concert was 'The Station' Nightclub in West Warwick Rhode Island.

Ninety seconds is all it took to go from life to death for 100 individuals to sadly lose their lives.

It all went down shortly after the Great White rock concert took the stage and ignited what was known as an 'inferno' using gerbs which are similar to sparklers that cannot be put out once ignited.

Those gerbs caught the polyurethane foam surrounding the walls and ceiling and went up quickly consuming everything in and around its path.

So many lives lost but the countless questions remains: Did this have to happen, could more lives been saved, why was the co-owner Patrick Derderian taking video & possibly blocking the exit, why did the doors open inward, why was the bouncer blocking the exit because it was only for the band during the fire, why weren't the exit clearly marked, why was such flammable material used, who authorized the pyrotechnics, and most importantly did this club exceed the total capacity allowed by law?

Sadly, indictments and large payouts won't bring anyone back. It won't erase this terrible tragedy, it won't change anything nor bring comfort for those 100 lives lost.

What's not known is why this all happened because in a nation full of dishonesty, deceit, trickery, lies, and corruption it ultimately rests on the hands of those who always have two sides of the story to tell.

Which side you choose is based on your evidence of the facts what little there may be and who is telling them to you.

This reminds me of my divorce to a malignant narcissist in which I felt like a prisoner in my own home. I was abused in every format yet nobody would believe my pleas for help because he portrayed himself in a certain light, he appeared likeable and credible, and when he took the stand in our civil case he was even deemed by a master judge to be believable even going against every piece of legal paperwork I could provide to disprove and show my facts including police reports, pictures of abuse, arrest papers, bank statements showing transfer of hidden funds, etc.

My point is two fold: Nobody wins except the attorneys in these cases. Even if a payment is put on the books (as was my case) you rarely ever receive and if you do it trickles in over the course of many years and hopefully the full amount is provided before you perish.

Secondly, it's not easy to be the bearer of facts and even armed with every document including in many cases the 'smoking gun' of the case it's not taken as fact and discredited in a day and age when falsities and fallacies take precedent over truths and fact checkers.

The only one who truly knows the truth is the man above and he will ultimately be the trial and the jury.

May all those who lost lives and those who harbor this trauma inwardly be free and be able to find peace.

A great new read that brings to light the world we live in and what's most important!

Thank you to Scott, the pub, NetGalley, and Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.
