Book Review: "Just Saying" By Sophie Ranald

Two's company but three's a crowd and in this case it's more than just a hot romp.

It's a chick lit with some serious sexual abuse allegations that were kept in the closet by a woman who at one time wanted to be a lawyer but settled for a lesser share of the pie. Why she and her boyfriend didn't just create their own firm and go to town rolling in the dough is not known.

The side action was almost unbearable as I wanted to yell to Alice to wake the heck up and get it together and stop getting involved in the revolving door syndrome of relationships.

As I have glanced at other reviews I noticed a similar theme or dislike for the angst and tension, the multiple plot or sub plots, and the action that fell flat near the end with a shocking reveal that was more of a cliff hanger.

My biggest complaint is that I love strong feminine characters and for a woman to be given a choice in accepting a man's ex girlfriend to reside in a spare room is where I'd draw the line even if to help pay the rent- It's a NO "Thank You" from this gal.

As we continue on I'd have to agree with many of the not so happy commentaries but the writing for me was fun, the characters were despicable but made you dislike them ~so the author did her job, and the chick lit was full of drama!

That boiled over into crucial and difficult topics such as immigrant with other characters, homosexuality, the #MeToo Movement, and much more.

So please note: there are a number of sensitive topics to digest. I can see two sides to the coin. Because on one hand some reviewers noted it felt forced but for others who often lived similar fates it's not forced but necessary to keep times relevant, to keep open dialogue, and to keep discussion ongoing.

So for that I give credit to where credit is due because in the end it's how each books makes us feel and if it elicited a response then it's a job well done.

For me it's not easy to ever discuss abuse of any kind and there's never a right time to do such.

The writing was wonderful, the plots were constantly evolving, the characters were relatable and actively engaged.

All in all a strong and solid read.

Thank you to Sophie, Bookouture, Amazon Kindle, and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.
