Book Review: Lovely War By Julie Berry

"Why are Love and War eternally drawn to one another?"

An interesting dynamic plays out between the Greek Goddess Aphrodite and the characters bound by love, war, tragedy, and loss.

“The first casualty of war is the truth.”

Truth be told this was one hell of a historical piece of fiction during WWII between several different and vivid people each with their own agenda to accomplish.

We have the English Pianist, Sharpshooter and former architect, French Singer with a bit of PTSD, and of course the brilliant musician whose headed off to sea.

This isn't your typical boy meets girl, boy falls in love, all is good in love and war scenario.
This is a bit magical, with a fistful of emotion, coupled with pain beyond words but perhaps it's best said, “You may ask me, as others have done before, whether it was kindness or cruelty to allow them to meet, so soon before his departure, with so little time to discover each other. Whether the pangs of loss do not invalidate the bliss of love. Especially where war is concerned, and Death runs rampant with his bloody scythe. You may say that it was wicked of me to allow James to find Hazel, and Hazel, James, if three days were all they would have. I don’t call it cruelty. I do not apologize.”

The relationships that were forged, the love that was shared, the loss that was captured was pure beauty.

I hope everyone has the chance to read this wonderful new work as it's a Y.A. genre however, it truly captures the hearts and minds of everyone who reads it.
