Book Review: Pride, Prejudice, and Other Flavors By Sonali Dev

I have to say this book hit on many hard to discuss topics including male rape by female perp, injustices against scapegoats in families, patient rights HIPAA, female v male rights and the entire #MeToo movement, and the growing feminist movement in today's world.

I normally don't rate a book based on the topic, the subjects, or whether or not I agree with the author's viewpoint because for me it's about much more such as the writing, the flow, the emotions it exudes in readers, the plot, the structure, the style and the way in which it left readers feeling.

However, in this case the author chose subject matter that is controversial but provided very little backing and so it's not resolved and for many that's causing issues.

As an activist against injustices and as a feminist I can't go along with the notion men should never report rape because the culture won't accept it.

It's not about society it's about the person regardless of their race, class, demographic, gender, or any other distinguishing characteristic.

I have difficulty in addressing the scapegoating because I am the scapegoat in my own family and have been for 46 yrs. While I'm thrilled it was discussed here it's not something that society finds damaging. In fact I can't tell you how many times I've been told to simply "suck it up buttercup-we all have problems"

It all comes down to further victim shaming, blaming, and scapegoating and for me this is not the type of book I would further promote even though the writing was good.

I simply cannot stand behind a book that invites this type of hatred towards others ....
So on that note I'll give it three stars for the writing style which was good but for the subject matter(s) and how it was addressed I will keep it to only three for this review.
