Book Review: "A Caller's Game" By J.D. Barker

Holy hell! What did I just read??

I'll tell you- it's not often a book of this magnitude comes around but when it does it blows all contenders out of the water.

This game is one that will have you wishing you were the last one picked on the playground. It's full of suspense, intrigue, heart pounding and frightening action. Additional characters that are full of brass and naughtiness while at the same time succumbing to the dangerous elements.

NYC with its intricate numerical streets, tunnels, passageways is the ideal set up for this confrontational radio host named Jordan. She's a tough cookie, not willing to forgive nor forget her ex spouse Nick, but in love with her daughter Charlotte (her pride and joy.)
A Caller's Game keeps the toe tingling curls by creating drama that heightens with each caller on the line. In fact, Bernie is the one to watch, as he illuminates the calling board with his information while also demanding his time to talk.

He's a man with a gripe from his past and wants to be noticed, his alpha ego demands attention, yet, his mannerisms signify something far worse.

How far is this game going to go? Will the decisions made have consequences?

This is the question that Jordan now faces with this lunatic on the line who insists he's taking no prisoners but holding people hostage and blowing up taxies along the way.
Folks, I sure as hell ain't jumping in no parachute -even if to save my own life - but what if it's your daughter's life or that of a loved one?

I'm shiite scared of heights but what if every damn floor is exploding faster than a drum beat? Is there nowhere safe?

We live in a world that has everyone on edge. A world riddled with a constant fight or flight response. I knew going into it that this would be the end result knowing who was as the helm operating the show in terms of politics but in terms of this book I had no idea how this would ultimately end.

The stakes couldn't be higher. The tension was built to cut with a knife. The butter was churning faster with each turn of the knob.
The war raged on...

Who will win, who will lose, who will pay the ultimate sacrifice? The writing is on the wall - now all we need is someone brave enough to see it, acknowledge it, and not enable it further.
Loyalty will only get you so far in life. Their comes a time when we must operate from a moral compass that's enriched with empathy, compassion, and love.

I hope that day comes soon because as the author notes in his closing remarks- the pandemic has wreaked havoc upon our country. Not just in NH, FL, or any of the spots he's mentioned but around the globe. We all know someone who lost a life and it's crucial we not take this life for granted.

Everyday is a blessing and this book brings home that point -Loud and Clear!

Thank you to J.D. Barker, the pub, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.
