What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, or does it??
Hot damn! I see you Morgan Rogers and I'm loving every inch of you!I cannot believe this is a debut as it's so free flowing, inventive, creative, exquisite and full of hot intriguing chemistry.
Whether you're here for the party, the party favors, or the guests mingling-there's something in here for everyone to enjoy. After all, this is a wedding or two, albeit a quickie or three, and for good reason.
Yet, don't let the title fool you as Morgan isn't here to play -she's here to - win- in capturing the hearts, minds, and appeal of her readers with vigor.
I'll be honest I'm a conservative -single momx3teens, divorcee, who isn't up to par with all these new labels that today's millennials are using yet, it's refreshing to know that when the time is right they lay it all on the line and come up with a sweet prose, a lovely storyline, and hard fought plotting that strings it all together with sheer ease.
The writing is something that took me by surprise and lent me -a hand to hold, an ear to listen, and a heart to feel.
It's raw, it's real, it's deep, and it's powerful! It's about love, loss, friendship, and unity.
With this noted, I first must thank Lia Ferrone via Harlequin Trade Publishing who was kind enough to squeeze me into this Blog Tour extravaganza as I was late to this party.
The reason being I have nearly 300 ARC's with another 10 audio's to date but something about this cover - I couldn't shy away. I took time out of my crazy as all hell schedule -3 kids all graduating in a few months from 3 different schools while in extreme poverty and unpaid blogger- to get this out review out there in the book world.
I'm so glad I took the chance on this one not knowing truly what to expect because let's face it I'm not your typical reader.
In this novel, we find a woman seeking to find herself, her placement among her peers, her creative juices, and her defining of her gender identity which has been hidden for many years. Grace, is 28 and struggling to get her career off the ground as an astronomer. She suddenly takes the plunge and gets married to Yuki Yamamoto as her wife.
This is just the start of the journey because these two lovebirds are just getting to know one another. Yet, Grace knows her father may have set the plan but plans change, life changes, and yes, the goal posts change. Milestones, life's markers, & major growth adjusters are often felt but never seen until something big goes off the charts.
This is that type of feel as you get to follow along for the ride in seeing the maturity, the growth, the development of these characters, lovers, friends, and families plus the heartfelt enrichment of good pain that each must try to make meaningful.
The Corporal was rough and tough and Grace's mom seemed to go along with his mindsight as well as the flow much like her daughter until she lost herself. When that happened they all began to second guess the flow charts. This is where the real substance and soul comes into play. By the way So pleased with the relationship goals between her mom (Melodie Martin and Kelly) and how it was finalized.
Authenticity is key! Morgan has it in the bag!
This heartwarming novel shows the struggles of many people of color but also in the humanity aspect of coming together to accept our differences.
I can't think of a better read to open one's eyes to the plight of the LGBTQIA community than a book of this magnitude.
These characters truly shed valuable insight in a manner that was beautifully written, easily relatable, and readily transformative in a manner each their own.
I absolutely adored the strong flavored ending in which the trip to NYC, the garden grove, the ability to heal and preserve one's sense of self was just a ray of sunshine.
I'm so honored to have read this ARC and participate in tonight's blog tour. I can't wait to see what's on the horizon for this wonderful new author.
Thank you Morgan Rogers, Harlequin, Lia Ferrone, NetGalley, Amazon Kindle and all those who played a role in inviting me to partake in this 'wedding of the minds.'
