Book Review: "A Wild Winter Swan" By Gregory Maguire

“But she knew better than to trust the false hope of the holidays.”

― Gregory Maguire, A Wild Winter Swan

Now if you've read the premise you understand this is about a young girl who finds herself at a crossroads in need of intervention.

At the same time a young boy swan flies up against her roof injuring his wing and is now dependent upon others for help.

This fictional, fantasy, folklore is a re-telling with some interesting plot enhancements “A bird in the house is a sign someone will die soon.”

― Gregory Maguire, A Wild Winter Swan

With this noted, the part for me that made it flounder slightly was it lacked the imaginative, fantasy realm, that spun magical creations towards the readers.

While I wish it felt more concrete rather than contrived it would've helped to invest in the characters to make them more relatable as many felt reviewers in the field of expertise noted they felt no realism for the reasoning as to why they needed to become involved in the story telling process.

A Wild Winter Swan had been written realm it just lacked the luster and shine that would've set it apart from the rest.
