Book Review: "Mrs. Lincoln's Sisters" By Jennifer Chiaverini

'In May 1875, Elizabeth Todd Edwards reels from news that her younger sister Mary, former First Lady and widow of President Abraham Lincoln, has attempted suicide. '

This fictional account brings up turmoil among the sisters, the family's pain in declaring Mary as insane, and the aftermath of such a revealing situation.

The legal proceedings followed that were originated by Mary's eldest and only surviving son.
The trauma and loss that Mary experienced is what many including her estranged sister Elizabeth believe to be behind her altered state of mind.

Subsequently, due to these stressors she ultimately attempts suicide which further warrants clarification into the notion that she's either truly insane in need of medical intervention or she's completely sane and terrified of such intervention within the asylum walls.

This book was an interesting take on the First Lady through a fiction storytelling in which there's more to the story than meets the eye.

Thank you to my local library for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.
