Book Review: "Bone Deep" By Sandra Ireland

If you like dark twisty psych thrillers you got it!

This is one of those you're not sure which way it will proceed to take readers.

It's a slow burn at first but picks up quite nicely and deals with alternating viewpoints.

Mac is the historian while Lucie is the assistant employed by Mac.

The plot revolves around an old tale Mac has become obsessed over about the two rival sisters who fell in love and then died.

It's quite the charmer (enter sarcasm) and not easily digested for those who aren't thriller lovers.

It follows a Gothic tale format that is bone tingling and chilling all at once.

So be prepared to enjoy but know the risks involved....

Book Review: "The Paris Diversion" By Chris Pavone

Espionage at its finest is devoured in The Paris Diversion a second in the series of Kate Moore by Chris Pavone.

What we have here is a normal day turned deadly with everyone taking cover and some running to the scene of the crime.

It's a madhouse in the heart of Paris as terrorist converge on the beloved City of Lights.
Meanwhile Kate is our undercover CIA agent. Her job is so secretive her own family is unaware of the hidden dangers.

There is also the secretive and suspenseful link between Hunter and Dexter that takes on a world of its own.

The ultimate question becomes who sent the Jihadist and why and the answers may not be openly visible to all.

Book Review: "A Nation of Wusses" By Ed Rendell

A better title would be the Fleecing of Pa!

Well I can tell you this having resided in NEPA Luzerne County my entire life (46 yrs) that this area is full of narcissists and most of them run or have run for office.

This is one example of a man who has no problem tooting his own horn and pointing fingers at others so much so that the best we can get out of it is the fact that he felt Al Gore was a nice and decent man and that Clinton made you feel important.

We may have lost our boldness and courage and that may be fact but what burns my tail is the fact that it's because the politicians are delivering empty promises and broken dreams and those who voted them in are not the wusses but rather the suckers for putting them all there.

We have not necessarily lost our way but what we have found is a nation of corruption, nepotism, pay to play schemes, greed, and the top 1% cushioning their own pockets.

Pa may have been at one point a force to reckon with but not now with unemployment and dilapidation, with infrastructure crumbling, and please don't get me going on the debacle of the highest gax tax in our nation or the highest education for that matter.

Look we can't tax everyone else to death so we can get rich quick and retire on a nice pension.

We can't transfer funds meant for one thing such as to pay for road repair and use it to pay state police pensions.

We can't afford to pay the CEO of Penn Dot over 200k and yet continue to raise the turnpike tolls.

We have travelers and businesses using alternate routes just to avoid the insanity with round abouts that are too narrow for trucks and tolls that are too high to make a profit.
What the hell has happened here is pure greed to the top 1%

When you have someone like myself with a masters who can't get a job that must beg for employment for the past 9 years and counting then we are doing a great disservice to our people and our society at large.

I don't care to place the blame I care to have it fixed as I have three teens who deserve more than what we currently have to offer them and our next generation.

Book Review: "Her Daughter's Mother" By Daniela Petrova

Captivating! Heartfelt! Powerful!

This is the story of Lana and Tyler a match not quite made in heaven!

Having children is at the forefront of this one as the importance ways heavily on everyone of these characters.

Each is involved in the other's life whether directly or indirectly in having a child.
Katya is the ying to the yang as the author noted but she's also the egg donor who has gone missing.

Tyler of course may be quite perplexed in learning the full extent of Lana's secret but the karma train goes both ways here and each has an equally difficult and painful road ahead.

Meanwhile Josh is that character who appears later on in the plot with quite a bit to note for the record and what he has to say is quite shocking.

Suicide is not an easy topic nor is IVF and the perplexities involved in relationships so for me this was quite a two fold of nail biting thrills.

Book Review: "The Disappearance of Alistair Ainsworth" By Leonard Goldberg

This third book in the series based on Sherlock Holmes daughter is perplexing at best and chilling beyond measure.

It all begins in 1915 in London and ends with WWI in which the Germans have abducted one of Britains code breakers and the chase is on to find him as Joanna and Watson may be the only ones who can find him.

The Disappearance of Alistair Ainsworth is quite a unique read that will have you up pondering the book long after you've finished reading.

A must read for 2019!

Book Review: The Friend Zone By Abby Jimenez

Staying true to oneself, following one's passions, chasing one's desires!

I loved this from the word go because it centers upon a dilemma not just a romance and it ends with much more than anyone ever bargained for in a whole new life for all.

The characters here were truly multi-dimensional and colorful with strength, charm, charisma that enticed readers with that 'likeability' factor.

Kristen has no idea her life is about to change and for the better while facing her biggest medical obstacle in bearing children.

There's a lid for every pot and when Josh comes on seen literally and figuratively in a fender bender we see more than just sparks flying and I'm not talking from just the accident.

The connection these two have is magical and yet she shy's away from the romance because of her medical issues.

Perhaps if she were to simply be open and upfront that would mean all the difference and in fact it plays out that way in the end.

This novel was simply beautiful in every way and I hope everyone gets a chance to sit down and enjoy!

Book Review: "Women and Money" By Suze Orman

One of the best in the business!

There is not a day that goes by that I don't find a need to improve upon my finances especially after being left bankrupt and homeless from a divorce nearly 6 yrs ago.

The problem I do have is that many expect women to be in control of their own finances but if you're in my situation in extreme poverty and dealing with a malignant narcissist in court every few years it's hard to prepare for a future when you're in constant fight or flight mode. In addition the importance of establishing credit cannot be overstated. You cannot get a rental, purchase a car, get a loan without it.

So let me explain as I'd love for Suze to address the how to ways in solving this issue in particular: Just like when I was married I was provided an allowance. Now it's in the form of 'child support' that is deemed proper by the family courts to raise my 3 teens. That number changes depending on whether or not I file an appeal for an increase or my ex spouse files for a decrease claiming financial hardships as is the current issue.

I'm supposed to get payments every two weeks in a set amount (bi weekly) but I'm often lucky to get payments on time especially if it occurs on or near a holiday or a Friday.
In addition being below poverty keeps you 'locked in' to poverty as for every dollar obtained 10 in taken away from somewhere else. For example when I lost my son's SSI for disability (even though he's born disabled and will be for life with Vater Syndrome) I was then increased for EBT based on lower income. It also works the other way around when child support pays out 3 payments in one month rather than two than my EBT would decrease.
In other ways damned if you do and damned if you don't. If my teens go to work that lil they would earn being it's $7.25 min wage here in NEPA w0uld go against what I receive in aid from the government therefore you can't improve upon yourself unless you're able to secure at least a living wage.

I would know as I have a Masters before having had three kids and raising them the past 18 yrs. I now have the lost time in earning potential and employers won't hire me. I've tried since 2010 to today with rejections galore. I also filled in the gap with over 20 yrs volunteering and yes even with the Points Of Light Award for the nations greatest community service volunteers it means nothing against getting an actual paid job.
The courts don't recognize my unpaid labor as work nor have I ever received compensation for those lost earnings.

So now what is my question to you Suze?

In addition I'd like to now address your book as I loved it aside from this issue I personally have above.

"How we relate to money is a reflection of what we feel about ourselves."
As an abuse survivor who dealt with 'financial abuse' from a malignant narcissistic spouse for over 11 yrs I can tell you this is the most accurate statement you could've provided to your readers.

Women feel powerless to control money based on external factors especially those women like self who lacked love and support or even guidance in their earlier child rearing days.
Self worth determines one's net worth!

So follow these 8 Essential Qualities:
Harmony, Happiness, Balance, Wisdom, Courage, Cleanliness, Generosity, and Beauty.
I would add know your worth and your value.

If you must use your spouse's income to establish credit do so to save yourself if stuck in loveless and abusive marriage.

Know what comes in and goes out in terms of paperwork including unpaid utility bills and or taxes.

My malignant narc paid taxes using Turbo Tax online w/o my signature required so it was rather easy to not know our financial situation.

I'm a very well educated woman but you must note these men are vultures who pray on unsuspecting women.

They will try to get you to use your credit to purchase them items with promises of repayment that never arrives.

Mine was constantly requesting new furniture, new appliances, new washers/dryers yet I had no job nor income but fab credit.

Watch also for his snail mail being sent to other p.0. addresses to keep you less informed and or using private bank accounts set up as business accounts in which he'll transfer funds w/o knowledge and plead poverty.

I laugh now when I realize while I live in extreme poverty being told to vacate our property or be taken out with a constable and having our utilities turned off without one dime in child support for over a year accruing to 15k he was pleading poverty having never filed for bankruptcy or governmental aid as his own wife and kids had to do.

Watch for toxic men ladies who will promise you the world, love bomb, and then discard and devalue it's the classic sign of a whir wind romance.

I'm actually quite shocked this wasn't mentioned but perhaps in a follow up edition.

I also would like to thank whoever sent me this signed copy edition of this book.

I will forever cherish!

Thank you!

Book Review: "The Art of Inventing Hope" By Howard Reich

"Without memory nothing exists."

I read this while at the Henry Cancer Center at Geisinger Hospital while getting an iron infusion for severe anemia.

What fascinated me about this interview was the clearly felt bond between the two and the genuine respect for one another especially in the end of Elie Wiesel's passing.

We can learn much by simply asking questions and I'm always taken back to a time of great strength when I meet or read about holocaust survivors.

My word what they went through and yet they harbor not one drop of bitterness but rather they channel that hurt to be better. To help others. To keep their legacy alive long after they've left the Earth.

The compassion, the empathy, the level of mutual understanding is beyond words but I cherish these authors who are blessed to have met a legend in his own rite.

This centered more about the notion of the children and their parents. How they learn from one another. How they share the good and the bad. How they are to maintain hope even when facing adversity and challenges outside one's own control.

I wish I had the ability to jot down notes but I was hooked up to an IV as their was many memorable quotes throughout.

The section devoted to hope was most profound and had me in tears. Hope wasn't just about looking ahead but finding like minded individuals and using that connection to boost one's spirit from within each other.

If you have but one book to read this is it this year!

Book Review: "Ave Maria" By Pope Francis

Short and sweet by Pope Francis in addressing not only the importance of women but one woman in particular the mother of Jesus -Maria- the central focus of the Catholic faith.

I love how the Ave Maria prayer was discussed line by line in full detail about the meaning behind every word.

I enjoyed the connection to women of today, the complex nature of Mary in general, and the connection to today's intense culture.

The most important was the notion of Mary being an "Icon' and a role model for women seeking strength, faith, and hope in trying times.

I was completely wrapped up in this wonderfully written work.

Book Review: "Backlash" By Brad Thor

"Adapt and Overcome!" "Failure is NOT an option!" "Vigilance is the Price of Freedom"

Hands down the best book I've read of Brad Thor's to date and that's saying plenty as I've read numerous books by Brad Thor over the years.

Operation Gray Garden is in full swing!

Scot Harvath our former Navy Seal is on high alert to find and or recover Dead Or Alive Josef Kozak.

Oh no biggie! Oh but wait he's the best dam operative there ever was during this national security imperative mission in Russia.

Kopec is our Russian Asset with plenty of action taking place throughout this cranked up to the gills thriller.

We have safe houses, cabins, special ops, wildlife ie. Wolves and Lynxes snow covered streets, helicopters flying overhead, dark forests, and hidden messages everywhere.

Hostages, mercenaries, executions I mean seriously it's all present and ever expanding beyond one's wildest dreams!

This is one book you must read!

When Captain Kyle Mercer of the Delta Force goes missing you know shiite is going to hit the fan!

However, what is not well known is just how far, how fast, and how dangerous a mission it will become and Nelson and his son Alex bring the mystery, suspense, and chilling drama right to your front door.

Imagine if you will you a video surfaces from the Taliban but everyone wonders if they are even involved in your MIA status?

A year later an old army buddy spots Kyle in Venezuela and puts Scott Brodie and Maggie Taylor of the Criminal Investigation Division to bring you back home to good ol U.S.A.

There's plenty of detail about the countries involved and about the operation at hand in the initial stages of the plot so don't let it bog you down.

Once you get beyond the fluff it's a wonderful and engaging action packed thriller!

Book Review: "Escape From Paris" By Stephen Harding

Downed U.S. aviators meet up with French Resistance Fighters during Nazi occupied Paris on Bastille Day in this one of a kind new thriller by Stephen Harding that will have you feeling as though you are right there in the thick of it all!

They were rescued by brave French civilians and taken to Paris in the hopes of eventually escaping France.

The danger looked all around as they plotted, strategized, and formed their own ideal friendships with the Parisian families and landowners in hiding as the Nazi's went door to door.

Meanwhile a wartime romance was beginning to unfold before the readers eyes in spectacular fashion in this City of Light.

I loved every second of this book and hope you do as well as it was truly a fab read based on a true story.

Book Review: "The Marriage Trap" By Sheryl Browne

I've been in a loveless empty bottomless pit of a black hole marriage but hell this just raised that bar in terms of why marriages fail and perhaps why many chose to marry in the first place.

This may be as one reviewer put it a bunch of smoke and mirrors but when you marry a narcissist aka sociopath or psychopath that's exactly what you get and that's exactly the point the author was making.

There's a dilemma sweeping the nation with entitlement but also at the flip end there's the lack of empathy, compassion, and love and this book makes you feel all those emotions to a 'T'!

It appears that Sheryl Browne wanted readers to think and feel one way about this entire marriage on the rocks between Karla and Jason until the truth was ultimately revealed in mind twisting fashion.

You know that whole deal with hush money, blackmail, threats, intimidation, fear, and anxiety induced PTSD panic stricken moments using fight or flight responses ...well expect that and more here in this amazing new thriller.

Bookouture you've done it again in spectacular fashion. Keep em' coming!

Book Review: "We Were Sisters" By Wendy Clarke

A parents worst nightmare visited when Kelly loses sight of her newborn son after she left him in the pushchair.

Panic ensues but then all is calm as readers realize she found Noah in front of another classroom but with a twist.

Noah had possession of a locket from her dead sister Freya who pays us more than one or two visits.

In fact most of the book was about the past and now and the back and forth of the memories surrounding Freya both good and bad.

It was chilling to engulf oneself in this new world surrounding Freya as you never know where it'll end until it does.

A marvelous new thriller by Wendy Clarke.

Book Review: "The Scandal" By Nicola Marsh

What goes around comes around and when that karma train rolls in you best watch the heck out!

Empty nesters meet the new gal in town!

Holy smokes that whole episode with Jodi will rock you to the core.

Before I go there you must know that Marisa has twin girls who have their own fair share of worldly issues but Elly in particular is who you want to zoom in on in this novel.

This book covers some heavy hitting topics so it's not just a scandal it's a gut wrenching sucker punch that literally takes your breath away.

I'm not sure I can say much more beyond the fact that you must be careful the people you pick to marry as they may not be truthful nor honest for that matter.

Good job Elly in the end as I never seen that shocker coming towards me.

Nicola's books are amazing and I can't wait to see what she's brewing up next! I'll take two please!

Book Review: "Sisters of Willow House" By Susanne O'Leary

Ever feel like you're about to embark on a journey far beyond your control? Ever wonder what it must be like to live a double life successfully?

This had that sort of feel as we are captured by the relationship between Roisin and her sister Mauve using Irish ties.

It appears that each sister has a secret some more shocking than others and the feeling that life isn't quite yet complete for either one.

Roisin is actually separated from Cian while Mauve is withholding her secret till they are together at her aunt's tumbledown mansion which is also holding its own unique story behind the rafters.

The restoration may have brought them back but there's a storm rolling in and it may be significant enough to force a choice to be finally made.

What a powerful story! A must read for 2019!

Book Review: "Dear Edward" By Ann Napolitano

Life is about the highs and the lows and for some this book was more about those low moments but in reality it's about learning to overcome, setting new boundaries, looking forward to achieve your greatest dreams and for Edward it was all that and more.

You see Edward lost his entire family on that plane ride, he was the lone sole survivor. You could say he has a bit of survivor guilt but what shocked me was just how many of those relatives who lost loved ones made it more difficult for him to carry on because they wanted to know the last moments and share their loved ones stories with him.

While this was painful to read at times it was comforting in a weird way to know that he branched out to Shay the neighbor next door and created a lasting friendship with her.

Which brings us back to these main questions as developed by the author:When you've lost everything, how do find yourself? How do you discover your purpose? What does it mean not just to survive, but to truly live?

What also comes about is the constant badgering of requests for interviews, the non stop seeking of attention to unanswered questions. Part of him truly feels as though he's still up in the sky.

Numerous flashbacks take us back and forth between the characters lives including a woman named Florida, the parents of Edward Jane and Bruce, and of course Jordan who plays a major role near the end.

Learning to live again after tragedy strikes makes this one hell of a read by an amazingly talented writer!

Book Review: "Barack and Joe" By Steven Levingston

I love a book that provides such thoughtful insight in a manner in which it's fair to all sides without the need to be politically correct.

It truly doesn't matter what side of the aisle you are on what matters is the fact we don't lose sight of the goals and where we want the world to go into the future.

It's about coming together to work for a common cause and while these two bromanships is like water and oil in terms of their diverse backgrounds they came together when it mattered most and got the job done.

Those smiles, their laughter, their fun and good natured ways lead to a much more relaxed atmosphere.

In times of turmoil, hysterics, paranoia, it was so comforting to not wake up every day and see such horrific headlines about 'the one' and narcissistic ways.

What an amazing run they had together both as President and Vice President.

Good Luck to Joe Biden in his biggest role ever- President in 2020! This Scranton Native is missed!

Book Review: Strangers She Knows By Christina Dodd

Hunter or Hunted you decide?!

This is the dilemma introduced here as Kellen Adams and her family are in the line of fire.

It's a cruel game of cat and mouse even after moving to an island off of California to stay safe but instead she's brought the action upon her.

Christina Dodd always delivers and executes perfectly and this novel is no different as it's packed full of action, suspense, and mystery.

Thank you to Christina Dodd, Harlequin (HQN) and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "One Small Sacrifice" By Hilary Davidson

“Mother Teresa said that for a sacrifice to be real, it must cost, must hurt, and we must empty ourselves."

Alex was a fab photojournalist capturing the dark side until he was suddenly kidnapped and began suffering flashbacks that resulted on PTSD.

Now feeling the pressure and seemingly at the end of his rope he commits suicide yet it was Cori the alleged drug dealer and friend who wound up dead ruled a suicide. Alex ironically doesn't remember a single thing about the nights events.

Everyone appears to be pointing the guilt towards Alex especially considering the fact his fiancee Emily has now gone missing.

Perhaps she got wind of his evil ways or was it all simply a huge misunderstanding?

This was quite the thrill that is to be made into a series with the second of the series due out closer to 2020.

So stay tuned for more of these exciting new adventures by Hilary Davidson.

Book Review: "The Boy In The Photo" By Nicole Trope

A parents worst nightmare comes true and the cost could be deadly!

I can't imagine any father kidnapping his own child but when Daniel reappears he's not the same.

Daniel is suffering after years of psychological damage so much so that Megan has hired a therapist to figure out the why and how behind the fire that took his father Greg's life. Or did it?

Wait...

Ok well listen there was some evidence left behind in the fire but it was so badly decomposed that it's going to take some time.

Meanwhile the mother has moved on from her tumultuous past to new greener pastures with Michael and her daughter.

Life seems to be going great and then all of a sudden the news hits...Daniel has been found. He's ALIVE!

Thank goodness but before we get all excited he's still very distant, emotionally distraught, and perhaps he's got his own set of secrets.

My word this was a special number....

Book Review: "The Hidden Things" by Jamie Mason

To be young again....

Can you imagine 14 yo Carly went from being a victim to be being a survivor and a heroine in a matter of seconds when her home went under attack.

An expensive painting was stolen and the owner of said painting wants her life back but first the mystery must be solved over how it got to be in the stepfathers home in the first place.

As the art owner is left for dead the disturbing secrets start to come to the fore front of this amazing new thriller.

Delivering the treasure may be harder than you might think

Book Review: "What She Never Said" By Catharine Riggs

Assisted suicides is all the rage for these retirees but a person named Angel may be all you need to know.

The Russian Mob coming to you from everywhere is the theme here in this crazy mixed up set up of USA targeted politicians.

The plan now is simple for Tacoma after Cosgrove was taken out. That plan is to find the Russian mob first before they find him.

No rules, no limits, hell no boundaries.

Book Review: "The Things I Know" By Amanda Prowse

Are your flaws and imperfections hiding your true identity?

Would you be more open, honest, forthright with yourself and others if you simply accepted your fate?

The Things I Know involves Thomasina may have some physical flaws but they shouldn't be what keeps her from experiencing all that love has to offer.

Perhaps Grayson who arrives on the farm can help her overcome these setbacks and start a loving whirlwind romance but only if she's willing to let herself go along with her insecurities.

Life may just be a beautiful thing after all....

Book Review: "You Were There Too" By Colleen Oakley

When you think of love and romance what comes to your mind?

Is it perfection? Is it hard work? Is it flawed and imbalanced?

What I enjoyed about this new work from the amazing Colleen Oakley is the unexpected outcomes throughout this story.

They say actions lead to consequences. Hell you make your bed you must lie in it and all that goodness yet for these characters they were strong till their last days.

Mia had it all with the perfect husband and life yet she wanted a child, a family, and a relationship about the what ifs.

What if her life was different than what she has now? Would she appreciate it more or less if she came close to losing it all?

What if is what readers wondered as they seen her heartbreak one right after the next in a sequence of built up revelations and secrets.

In the end perhaps she achieved the ultimate goal but at what price?

What is one willing to give up in order to get something else they are longing for?
OMG!

This was superb!

I'm truly honored to have been selected for this ARC! I hope everyone has a chance to read this 'must read' novel for 2019!
