Life is about the highs and the lows and for some this book was more about those low moments but in reality it's about learning to overcome, setting new boundaries, looking forward to achieve your greatest dreams and for Edward it was all that and more.
You see Edward lost his entire family on that plane ride, he was the lone sole survivor. You could say he has a bit of survivor guilt but what shocked me was just how many of those relatives who lost loved ones made it more difficult for him to carry on because they wanted to know the last moments and share their loved ones stories with him.
While this was painful to read at times it was comforting in a weird way to know that he branched out to Shay the neighbor next door and created a lasting friendship with her.
Which brings us back to these main questions as developed by the author:When you've lost everything, how do find yourself? How do you discover your purpose? What does it mean not just to survive, but to truly live?
What also comes about is the constant badgering of requests for interviews, the non stop seeking of attention to unanswered questions. Part of him truly feels as though he's still up in the sky.
Numerous flashbacks take us back and forth between the characters lives including a woman named Florida, the parents of Edward Jane and Bruce, and of course Jordan who plays a major role near the end.
Learning to live again after tragedy strikes makes this one hell of a read by an amazingly talented writer!
