Book Review: "Victim 2117" By Jussi Adler-Olsen

First and foremost -Thank you to Dutton- for this ARC copy in exchange for this honest review.

This story was a powerful reminder that not everything is lost in translation when writing and that writing is an art form.

I can't imagine dreaming up half of what Jussi Alder-Olsen has brought us here but it was a dynamite performance in all regards.

Powerful, dynamic, vivid and lively characters, well structured plot, with twist and turns that were frightening and inspiring all at once.

The notion that a woman turns up and appears to be another victim - a refugee fleeing her past in the Mediterranean Sea- known only as Victim 2117 is how it all begins but certainly there's so much more.

The woman is recognized by 3 individuals and sets off a firestorm of issues for Department Q as it re-opens the cold case department.

She appears to hold many secrets including how she died and yet so much is yet unknown.

As the case moves foreward we meet a troubled teen known as Alex whose identity is hidden behind a computer screen. The death of Victim 2117 gives him a perfect  excuse to lash out in real life.

Meanwhile, Abu Ghraib- Sadam Hussein's infamous prison- the death was only the first step in a wider more extensive terrorist plot.

For Assad (Deparmtent Q ) the death was a link to his buried past and his own family that was long presumed dead.

Now the Squad is on the case (Carl,Rose, and Gordon) as they work to bring the family back alive and take in Ghallib.

However, Ghallib has more attacks up his sleeve and they may not get their man.

Staying one step ahead is the name of the game as the passion and intensity electrifies every single page.

I couldn't put this one down as the nearly 500 pages flipped faster than pancakes.

The interaction, the explosive setting, the remarkable allure of each character(s) were evident.

When we are brought back to the world of Marwa and Afif we are once again torn wide open.

As in a secret so shocking is revealed and it's not over yet.

Because we have one more arrest and one more powerful piece that must be dealt with before time runs out.

The clock is ticking --in all regards!

WOW!

Speechless!!

A must read for 2020!
