Book Review: "All Eyes On Her" By Laurie Elizabeth Flynn

Jack and Jill went up the hill...

Oh, wait!

It was actually a girl and boy in the woods. One fell down (actually off a cliff) and broke his crown.

Well, ok- he drowned!

Now seriously...this was a serious situation in which everyone thinks it was Tabby (his girlfriend) of a year.

Could she be so brazen to have killed Mark??

It seems there's no shortage of gossip, blogs, and even accusations from cheating to something about a possible pregnancy.

OMG!

Say it ain't so?!

The legal ramifications are huge for all involved but can the investigations get to the bottom of it all.

Well they do get to the bottom, they do uncover prints, DNA, and more clues but do all roads lead to Tabby.

Some say yes, what would you think?

That ending sent chills up my spine!!

Splendid!!!

Thank you to my son's college library for entertaining me tonight with this treat!

Book Review: "Take Me Home" By Alex Hart

A trail of theories that leads to one heck of a shocking revelation!!!

My word let me catch my breath...

Guys I won't steer you wrong as this is a must read - it packs a punch!

It begins with Harper returning a dress at the mall only to uncover a four year old girl all by herself.

It tumbles into a full blown snowball that wraps tighter than a needle and thread.

May Brown has no idea what'll happen but Harper tries everything to keep her safe.

Normally CPS is involved but who wants that ...so she embarks on this journey to find the truth herself alongside a retired cop(TJ).

I couldn't help but gravitate towards not only this scary situation but the young girl , her mother, and those who sought what was best for her.

Until I continued to read on and became alarmed , more concerned, and then full on panicked!

OMG!!!

Alex Hart puts everything in here with passion, raw emotion, and zest for the readers.

UNCLE ORANGE- you're on the radar -my friend.

So too is another character that you should have on your list of suspects: Svaag Dimash whose the cosmetic surgeon and somehow actively engaged with this case.

Now, if this isn't enough to wet your whistle -try this on for size- how about we throw in her parents.

Well I think they might be her parents but who knows as DNA hasn't come up yet...

Oh, snap!

The mother has been ....

OMG!

Ok, well look - you guys know that I'm a sucker for a good thriller (like you) but this was in a league all its own! A home run if you're into baseball!

Suffice to say extortion is just one of a laundry list of possible problems here.

Don't walk but rather run for this one as you won't be disappointed!

Book Review: "Keep Your Friends Close" By Janelle Harris

Never trust the perfect sweetheart!

YIKES...This had all the makings of a SUPERB thriller as we encounter one super sized drama after another in this one!

Darcy is no innocent victim but man she made her bed and now she must lie in it.

So sorry- I'm getting ahead of myself-

Ok - LOOK!

Darcy is pregnant with Luke and it just so happens he must go away on the dreaded business trip.

So why not get the neighbor (Gillian Buckley) to help your wife especially while prego? RIGHT?

I mean moving in with each other shouldn't be all that bad for comfort?

Oh, wait....

Andrew Buckley died!

Ok, well we must go back to when it all began with Tina back in '99 and then jump forward to 2019.

So lets do that...OK?

This jealousy stuff is for the birds but Tina may be crazier than a bat.

Just  sayin'

Apparently Zanax is all the RAGE but so too is kidnapping and my LORD...

Wait what?

This just in Rosie is missing?

ARE YOU KIDDING ME??

I best go find her ..

In the meantime you can take comfort in knowing a few survived...I HOPE!

I'm out of here...ENJOY!!

Thank you to Janelle, the pub, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "Hush" By Dylan Farrow

"They use magic to silence the world. Who will break the hush?"

Not only that but Shae -at 17 yo- has lost her only source of comfort-her mother !

The stakes couldn't get any higher but speaking of High House -it's their time to shine too!

I mean after all -we must not lose sight of reality- especially in this labyrinthe castle with all this fantasy, magic, and heart throbbing action.

The telling is what it's all about and look we need justice - don't we?

Someone killed Shae's mom and they must pay the ultimate price.

Was it the Bards?

The Bards are known as the justice seekers who use magic of telling.

What is it about this Book of Days that I keep reading about and why is that so important?

Well, folks the train has come to a stop-I must get off- but stay on and enjoy this ride!

Thank you to Dylan, the pub, Netgalley, and Amazon Kindle for this superb new ARC!

Book Review: "The Trapped Daughter" By Jay Kerk

Wronged by the man you love or completely off your rocker?~!

Well now, I'm sure Belle has a story to tell and so too does Gabe.

But who you believe and why -is the ultimate shocker.

Being locked up in a mansion while the family claims Gabe is not real...

Talk about mental instability and or insanity...

This was simply too out there for me and I wasn't able to really get a good feel for it.

As a speed reader that sometimes happens but I just couldn't connect.

I hope you find this one well as in the right hands it may be a good fit.

Thank you to Jay, the pub, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "Stolen Children" By Michael Wood

Some cases are cold. Some suspects are never caught. Some deaths stay with you forever!

What a powerful story in this new piece by Michael Wood in which we venture out into the unknown with Stolen Children.

Now, you're not going to imagine this but often when kids are stolen it's by someone they trust or know fairly well.

However, in this case there's so much more than meets the eye because we have several clues that just don't add up.

This bird trail of crumbs keeps leading to more and more heavy hitters and it became apparent that readers where in for a treat!

The suspense was riveting. The action was hot! The characters were dynamic! The writing was off the chart!

I didn't know who to believe at first especially when there's two similar cases with two missing kids.

Both involved high stakes action, ransoms, and botched jobs.

However, someone has to be held accountable, someone is responsible, someone out there knows the truth about these kids.

Kelley and Carl are on the radar with Carl coming forth in France from Sheffield to claim he's the real deal. Now if only we could find Kelley.

As the cycle perpetuates and ramps up we uncover more than just a child missing. Readers are lured into this cycle of abuse from all angles and it's bloody brilliant yet frightening -simultaneously.

What if the perpetrator is closer than you think? What if the perp is already dead? What if the girl is no longer with us?

It's such a dark story but one that I'm so glad it was told because it touches on the topic of sexual abuse that is crucial for today's crazy world.

DC Ellen and Matilda were such great characters for being such strong role models and standing up against the injustices of these kids.

Wait-WHAT?

This just in- someone has jumped the bridge?

Are you kidding?

Parenting is never easy but brain washing, manipulation, and sicko's are out there.

This story also touched upon suicide and the after effects of abuse with lies being the central topic and how crucial it's to believe a child's story.

An entire family torn to shreds by one person who gained trust of so many!

I can't imagine this scenario that Michael Wood has carried out to light but you might want to leave that light on and get that blankie ready to dash under for safety's sake.

Wow!

I'm a believer and can't wait to see what comes next from Mr. Wood!

Book Review: "Even If We Break" By Marieke Nijkamp

"FIVE friends go to a cabin.

FOUR of them are hiding secrets.

THREE years of history bind them.

TWO are doomed from the start.

ONE person wants to end this.

NO ONE IS SAFE.

Are you ready to play?"

Now folks, this was one of those deals in which I pulled this from Bibliotheca and didn't read the fine print so I had no idea what I was getting myself into and sometimes that's a good thing.

This began with a group of kids going to a cabin but two wind up dead.

YIKES!

Ok, we all know teens love games so perhaps it's all about the techno aspect of things but I can't tell I lie- I LOVED IT!

Sure -transgender- isn't my genre- and if you feel the same perhaps you too might take a chance.

Less is more and Life isn't always about winning or losing.

In fact, if my memory serves me right- it's about failing and sometimes you simply have to keep chasing after the IT factor.

I mean after all what is life without dusting off and going again for all the glory.

This was amazing and it truly spoke volumes as to the author's talent.

I hope you enjoy this gem as much as I did as it was exquisite with plenty of action and suspense thrown in the mix.

Book Review: "Mum & Dad" By Joanna Trollope

When life catches up to you and nips you right in the bud...

For this married couple of three kids it was anything but a walk in the park. Now the husband has had a stroke and the adult kids must come to his aid and assist but will they?

The three kids Katie, Jack, and Sebastian have a whole host of their own melodramas to work out so it's not a surprise when this sudden revelation puts a kink in their plans.

Not to mention half the family is in Spain while the other half is in London which makes communicating that much more strained.

The difficulty with this one was the lack of insight, connection, and appeal. It felt like nobody truly cared and it was going through the motions but not really going anywhere.

It was a good-solid read!

Thank you to Bibliotheca for another e-read book.

Book Review: "I Was Told It Would Get Easier" By Abbi Waxman

Beauty always fades, but it lasts so much longer if you lay a thick layer of intelligence and integrity underneath it.”

― Abbi Waxman, I Was Told It Would Get Easier

Talk about timing - if you're a single parent of teens like me than this is right up your alley.
It discusses not just the parent/teen relationship but the empty nest syndrome, the need to please, the helicopter parents, and the rich who often find ways to advance themselves and others. (hint)

So without further adu I give to you Jessica and Emily and the journey into college tours and the fun of sharing dorms and the like.

I mean isn't it just peachy, glamorous, and wonderful for us single parents?....

Ok, you know sarcasm when you see it but folks this was a nice and pleasant read and for Jessica who quit her job as an attorney it was quite the jumping off point.

Needless to say there's been plenty in the news lately of trying to get that extra edge but what if you know about some low down stuff but are afraid to speak out for fear of retaliation?
Now, there's an idea not yet ventured nor gained...

I enjoyed this one but as some other bloggers noted it was missing that special touch and it was hard to put your finger on the missing piece.

Just not connected for me but perhaps you'll be more in tune and enjoy this a wee bit more.

Thank you to Bibliotheca for this great capture.

Book Review: "Rage" By Bob Woodward

“When his performance as president is taken in it’s entirety, I can reach one conclusion. Trump is the wrong man for the job”.

“Mueller wrote, “a prosecutor’s judgment that crimes were committed, but that no charges will be brought, affords no such adversarial opportunity for public name-clearing before an impartial adjudicator.”

“We’re going to put a tariff on all steel and aluminum, on everything coming in,” the president said, “and see what happens.” This approach drove Gary Cohn, the chief White House economic adviser, crazy. He had argued passionately that the American economy was too important to haphazardly experiment with.”
― Bob Woodward, Rage

“Nobody believes—even the people who believe in him somehow believe in him without believing what he says.”
― Bob Woodward, Rage

“He’s the kind of person that would inspire crazy people.”
― Bob Woodward, Rage

“But now, I’ve come to the conclusion that the “dynamite behind the door” was in plain sight. It was Trump himself. The oversized personality. The failure to organize. The lack of discipline. The lack of trust in others he had picked, in experts. The undermining or the attempted undermining of so many American institutions. The failure to be a calming, healing voice. The unwillingness to acknowledge error. The failure to do his homework. To extend the olive branch. To listen carefully to others. To craft a plan. Mattis, Tillerson and Coats are all conservatives or apolitical people who wanted to help him and the country. Imperfect men who answered the call to public service. They were not the deep state. Yet each departed with cruel words from their leader. They concluded that Trump was an unstable threat to their country."

*Folks- there's a thing with gaslighting, manipulation, and power by force that results in more than mere confusion but rather smoke, fog, mirrors, and projection.
The propaganda is so universal that's become sickening and using our own military against our citizens is something I never thought I'd see in my lifetime much less by our so-called President.

I never voted for this man because I don't believe Rush Limbaugh or Fox are my higher powers.

I believe in transparency, intellect, truth and don't operate from a false sense of self.
The enablers that've allowed this to continue (Republicans, GOP's, family members, friends, etc) are in it for one thing: $$$ and by now you should know this family has built a fortune using brand name recognition along with shady business deals and the pay to play schemes that we're just coming up upon and uncovering today.

The reason they want 4 more years is obvious: LOCK HIM UP! (Sound familiar).

Trust actions not words and never be fooled.

Vote! BLUE!

Book Review: "The Book Of Lost Names" By Kristin Harmel

"Inspired by an astonishing true story from World War II, a young woman with a talent for forgery helps hundreds of Jewish children flee the Nazis in this unforgettable historical novel from the international bestselling author of the “epic and heart-wrenching World War II tale” (Alyson Noel, #1 New York Times bestselling author) The Winemaker’s Wife."

“anyone who saw the magic in books had to be good.”

This was so neatly packed with love, hope, and remembrance of The Book Of Lost Names involving a code that only Eva can decipher and bring to rest.

The photo was located in an article lying nearby when she was shelving books and it created a moment of raw emotion and paralyzing fear.

"The accompanying article discusses the looting of libraries by the Nazis across Europe during World War II—an experience Eva remembers well—and the search to reunite people with the texts taken from them so long ago. The book in the photograph, an eighteenth-century religious text thought to have been taken from France in the waning days of the war, is one of the most fascinating cases. Now housed in Berlin’s Zentral- und Landesbibliothek library, it appears to contain some sort of code, but researchers don’t know where it came from—or what the code means. Only Eva holds the answer—but will she have the strength to revisit old memories and help reunite those lost during the war?"

A wonderful and heartfelt new novel that was a pure joy to read.

Thank you to Bibliotheca for his copy in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "More Than We Remember" By Christina Suzann Nelson

"But it's a dangerous thing to make decisions out of fear. Fear can stop us from seeing the wonderful adventures and people who are waiting for us to show up."

Fears, regrets, loss and love -it's all in this one by Christina Suzann Nelson in a magnificent wrap that's woven through the intermingling drama of each of the three woman described here.

More Than We Remember focuses in on healing, peace, tranquility and faith not only in one another but in God.

"She says we're too big for our britches when we take responsibility for things that are ultimately out of our control. If we trust God, we trust that He can work through even the most upside-down situation."

It was quite the piece that you may wish to have a Kleenex available just in case.

Book Review: "Exciting Times" By Naoise Dolan

“You keep describing yourself as this uniquely damaged person, when a lot of it is completely normal. I think you want to feel special - which is fair, who doesn’t - but you won’t allow yourself to feel special in a good way, so you tell yourself you’re especially bad”

I'm not sure what to say on this other than I was confused with the characters, not feeling the action, and beyond myself bored.

Exciting Times was about an odd love triangle but for me it missed the mark and left me pondering why I bothered.

Hopefully for you it will feel more realistic and energizing but it simply didn't excite me in any sense of the imagination and certainly not one I'd remember long after the last page is turned.

Thank you to #CurbsidePickupMarathonReads for this new read courtesy of my local library. Please support them during these trying times.

Book Review: "Make Russia Great Again" By Christopher Buckley

Just a warning: If you read this you'll be laughing your arse off!

I absolutely loved this new work by Christopher Buckley because we all need a chuckle as our world has completely turned upside down and inside out.

What a better way to spend a weekend than with some satire and this hit every nail and god help us if the son takes over after this yo-ho in office.

I pray our world wakes up and quick because the clock is ticking and our democracy is at stake.

Not just democracy but human rights, climate change, the way our adversaries and allies view us.

It's all at stake and now more than ever we need to heed to the call, join hands, become united, and vote them all OUT!

Go BLUE!

Thank you to Christopher for this bloody brilliant piece of work.

Book Review: "Empire of Wild" By Cherie Dimaline

Pulling the wool over the eyes or a real bonified preacher gone mad?

This is the freakiest story I've read to date that's not only dark but mysterious and it all surrounds a man named Victor.

Could he be possessed by demons? Could he truly not recall his own wife after going missing?

Why is he with this traveling group preaching the words of God?

Has his faith become his own downfall?

So many wild and wooly questions arise in this new work by Cherie Dimaline.

A story of pure grit, luck, determination to win back a man in a state of confusion.

Can his wife convince him that he should be back with her?

An interesting dilemma that is sure to keep you guessing till the end.

Book Review: "Cruel Acts" By Jane Casey

Just imagine the guilt trip of placing an innocent person behind bars?

Now imagine a copy cat killer may be on the loose?

Just when you think you have it all figured out here comes Jane Casey to show you a new avenue of interest.

Cruel Acts is the newest of the Maeve Kerrigan series that carried itself with a host of powerful characters, twisty plots, and a unique perspective.

What if you got it all wrong!

Who pays the price now?

Perhaps Leo Stone isn't a killer. Perhaps he's innocent. Perhaps he shouldn't be serving a life sentence for killing two women a year ago.

There's only one way to find out -gather the evidence and go to trial-and the retrial may be just what is needed.

A great new read by Jane Casey.

Book Review: "Bitter Pill" By Fern Michaels

Guess there's not a magic pill -after all?!

This is one of those situations in which a bestie goes out of her way seeking longevity only to realize nobody can live forever and life isn't all it's cracked up to be.

In fact, the Sisterhood has their work cut out for them when they realize it may all be a get rich scam for these doctors that seem to have a pact.

Who knew -crooked doctors -really existed?

HMMM... seems so far fetched an idea.

However, when the Sisterhood checks it out they realize it's too good to be true as several individuals have suffered at the hands of these men that seem to share some rather interesting similarities.

This is Fern Michaels -so you know- the talent involved here.

A great new read that kept me entertained.

Book Review: "White House Inc" By Dan Alexander

 Money, Money, Money.....

Oh, the rich get richer and the poor well -it is what it is!

Sorry folks nothing to see here as the same old news about how DT has been born with the golden spoon and advanced to GO with enablers that open the flood gates and allow him to demolish our democracy one step at a time.

Sure he's not hurting for money but it's on the backs of hard working people and unsuspecting wives that he has made many of his fortunes.

Leaving others in poverty, unpaid or low waged employees, and the greed simply continues as his golf courses are seeing more than just pars and clubs.

This is the story of greed, power, corruption, control, authoritarianism, fascism, and dictatorship that has resulted in a family that is as dark and disturbing as they come but operate with a smile and a grin when in public.

Having divorced similar I can only note what I experienced and witnessed and saying that bankruptcy is a good way to operate a business is not my thing.

Having failed at nearly everything he's had his hands on or involved with is his motto and nothing will get better till we get out of the smoke, fog, and mirrors.

So buckle up as the king of swing is coming to you come November....
PLEASE VOTE!!!

As for this book it was a good cross reference to show just how much he's gained both before and after office.

The wheelings and dealings continue and are not limited to just DT but his own kids and extended family.

It's not hard to imagine that those who enable him do so for many reasons including but not limited to fear of retaliation but also as a source of benefit for the ONE.

They are all getting serviced or else they wouldn't be so loyal...Remember that loyalty doesn't pay as they will soon be devalued and discarded when they no longer serve a purpose.

Thank you to Dan, the pub, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "The Introverts Edge to Networking" By Matthew Pollard

It's not about working harder but working smarter and using your own interpersonal tools to get ahead and stay successful.

You know the old saying just when you're ready to give up something miraculous happens and for those who are lucky, able to network, and have good credit this is often the case.
For those of us with underlying medical conditions, who've given up careers for housework and parenting, for women who must fight for equality in the workplace the shoe doesn't fit as smoothly.

Before going into my own circumstances I'll address this new work by Matthew Pollard as it's deserving of attention.

What I enjoyed in this piece was the concentration upon helping others achieve success in networking as the templates and personal stories were splendid and very much appreciated.

Don't just say I'm a doctor-say I work miracles and offer solutions.

The three main problem solving solutions appeal to this notion of going out of your comfort zone to establish useful connections even if they don't get you that job. Creating a unified message to tie it all together was a unique idea from the Rapid Growth Guy.

Ironically, when I used to volunteer to gain valuable experience with the hopes of getting employed I was told I came across as being entitled and or 'owed' a job for my 20 yrs of volunteering service.

When I explained why I wasn't able to get hired: Age (47) most job hires locally are recent college grads, Under/OverQualified with education and lack of job experience, Pay Salary requirement, Nepotism in hiring, Jobs on hold for incidentals: corona, governor hiring freeze, even a convicted felon(yes, this happened and I have no criminal record).

I was told I came across too negative however this is my reality, this is real for me, and countless others. My own boss was once hired from Pocono Raceway while his volunteers worked long hard hours to get noticed and several of us applied for employment.

Now as for the sales pitch theory- I once scheduled an interview with our local city Chamber of Commerce- only to be ignored, left in the waiting room, earning valuable tips on hanging a door (construction crew was great) but nobody ever came out to meet me after my famous, "Dear John" rejection letter and subsequent interview request for advice. By the way the kid was younger than I that sent me the declined job offer.

When this happened and I was left to my own devices I went out of my comfort zone, went up to the first person I seen and introduced myself. It just so happened he was the President of the Chamber and we discussed the job prospect, the high number of applicants for the job, and I left feeling at least somewhat hopeful after this 10 yr process.

What many fail to acknowledge is child rearing is not a paid event. We lose valuable time off our wage earnings and are left with a time gap that can't be filled even with volunteering.

So my question is why are women being left behind after doing the hardest job on EARTH -in raising their kids- and not being given an opportunity to re-enter the workforce and not only that are only offered entry level jobs with Masters degrees being told they are over/under qualified yet they are in debt up to their eyes and can't make ends meet?

My other issue not noted in this book is poverty, lack of credit, bankruptcy and how that affects a job hire especially if a victim of abuse with a PFA on file.

You see here landlords don't rent to those of us with PFA's or kids because they don't want 'trouble' with police. The local shelters don't take women with children. We can't get jobs without credit or work on file for at least two years. If we must take governmental assistance than we are placed on a wait list for two years or more. So we are in dire straits before the job prospect is even recognized.

In fact I was almost hired from my last networking experience till I was declined for SEO position due to pandemic and economic uncertainties and all that went down in one weeks time.

I've heard everything from she just wants to milk the system, to get a job, to stop using others, to everything but the TRUTH!

Jobs are paying less than poverty - #15 Pennsylvania-pays $6.53 per hour difference- https://www.cheatsheet.com/culture/st...
Colleges are the most expensive in the nation including here in Wilkes -Barre Pennsylvania - https://www.ydr.com/story/news/watchd...
The systemic problem of valuation of a parents worth is declining as per this article: https://www.keystoneresearch.org/site...

We cannot raise our families on minimum wages. We cannot work to death using factories as I have for $7.25 hr with a ten cent raise as top producer in CTH and GTH as a material handler resulting in breathing in diesel fuel from loading docks and now having COPD, Asthma, chronic bronchitis, allergies, severe spinal stenosis, ganglion cysts (r hand repetitive movement injury) and more; and promise our recent grads all will be well.

As a warrior and self help guru with her own All Star Status, recipient of Points of Light from 41st USA President, and numerous awards for public service including writing/speaking I jumped at the chance for this new book.
The reasoning is simple: Ten year job search -unsuccessful in re-entry to workforce -as an MPA/CJ major -20 yr volunteer-seeking living wage earnings to support a family of four with disabilities (son with vater syndrome-med disabled for life), our family in extreme poverty, SSI-SSP payments ended upon his turning 18 yet disabled since birth for life, and divorce for me resulted in bankruptcy, poverty, homelessness, and LT unemployment.

My reality is one of blood, sweat, tears and further spinning of wheels.

I've utilized everything I have including reinvention, job fairs, cute UM's and created a business profile on LinkedIn.
My work is easy to find as I have litelink on all my online sites from FB, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram.

I'm not sure what the secret is as I've used cold calls, referrals (yup that bugger is rich but I'm sitting with no job), networking, business cards, business sites, uploading resume online, renewing resumes at undergrad college, monster boards for job inquiries, and I've never not sent a thank you for an interview or showed interest.

I've taken on two interview tests for content writer and jumped through all the hoops only to find they hired a young female right out of college (AGAIN).

I was put on hold for the SEO job only to learn another company down the street (TV STATION) hired during the same time I was being told that companies weren't hiring and in fact hired a man I knew doing similar work.

I also know jobs here are not based on what you know, how you present self, or how intellectual you are but on donations to local colleges, income status, age, and other distinguishing characteristics that are against the law but are still done in private.

Several jobs I applied to online were told to me to be not available yet they just posted them online seeking applicants.

Recently I applied to an entry level job at a doctor's office as a patient rep only to be interviewed during my daughter's appointment for a well visit and sent another decline job offer email.

Upon going back to the drawing board that same job was posted just two days later after I received the decline offer.
I've had people say did you check with such and such, did you take the state civil service exam, did you know blank was hiring...

It's all a game of cat and mouse and it's not something I've been happy to partake in as it's cruel, heartless, and devalues those who work hard.

I will close with this: I have over 128 ARCS, top 29 USA reviewer with Goodreads, 94%feedback with Netgalley and an auto approval as trade blogger working unpaid with 9 major publishers as we speak doing book reviews.

A similar male reviewer is a paid Amazon influencer and editor who gets all the attention and it's infuriating as I work equally as hard and I'm told to work harder even though I've worked just as hard for similar number of years with similar stats but I'm not popular and I'm not paid!

We all know by now that you don't bite the hand that feeds ya and ladies you can do everything right and still be wrong.
It's a sad world we live in but in terms of this book the only thing I can offer is to never give up.

I have three kids and all of them graduate 2021 with one in two year college.

I wish I could tell them this expensive MASTERS degree (100k) after interest in student loans from the original 35k was worth it but if you can't get a job with it than I'm not sure what good it does.

The world is good for the top 1% and those with connections and support and that's the TRUTH!

Hard work doesn't pay and work to death mottos will only keep the medical facilities in business.

Don't become complacent, don't wait for a solution, keep grinding, keep selling, keep telling your story.

Perhaps one day I too will finally get my chance to SHINE!
For all my long term unemployed friends remember : it's all about the U6 numbers and not U3 and no you're not lazy, uneducated, or unemployable.

NEVER GIVE UP...Ten year job search continues...Carry on!
Thank you to Matthew Owen Pollard for the insight but perhaps this is more for the younger crowd as it doesn't seem to apply for those of us who lived the life of hard knocks.

In closing, I have a friend whose in his late 60's he was convicted for selling bootleg purses in NYC and sentenced with a record. He can't get a job even when he became certified to treat others. It's not a one shoe fits all scenario but for those reading this you have a duty owed to live your best life.

Many of those over 40 are taking early retirement but I haven't even begun to officially get paid for working outside my home. Two elderly parents are also another factor not addressed in this novel; as they will need my attention when I finally finish raising my three kids solo as my kids are (20, 17, and 13).

We all have to realize that we can all be sales trainers if we are willing to use our own standout qualities.

No matter what happens, what label you're assigned- give it your best shot! The dash is the most important.

Book Review: "The Highly Sensitive Person's Guide to Dealing with Toxic People: How to Reclaim Your Power from Narcissists and Other Manipulators" By Shahida Arabi

A great introduction into the world of the HSP and Malignant Narcissists by Shahida Arabi.

This new work focuses upon the emotional turmoil and the healing guidance and recovery that ultimately must follow in order to reform this broken cycle.

Our family courts is one area of centralized focus in which we need desperate legalization and change. We cannot continue with high case loads, people viewed as mere case numbers, and no individualized training for the court workers and staff. Judges have no idea what they are dealing with and often side with the abuser noting they are more believable and or credible even when the victims aka warriors appear with legal documents in hand to prove otherwise.

I've dealt with this matter personally, professionally, and internally as a survivor of a malignant narcissist to whom I'm now divorced since 2013 from this 11 year union with three kids.

Everything noted in this highly acclaimed work is accurate and I'd note if you ever need another voice to acknowledge feel free to visit my self help site for further discussion -The Lost Self Life After Narcissism- Facebook.

I'll add that you are your best judge and jury. If it feels wrong, if the relationship was rushed, if you feel lost and overwhelmed -never give up.

Find your inner peace, harmony, and wellness by partaking in any simple exercise or activity as journaling and writing is clearly a good way not only to help others but to let those who've experienced similar know they too are not alone.

When the warning signs were initiated for me I chose to believe in the greater good. I fell for the lies, the excuses, and the partial truths.

Do not make the mistake I made with a dual masters degree in Criminal Justice by believing the well dressed lie.

Narcissists operate from a false sense of self. They feel superior with grand ego's and don't believe the law applies to them.

The enabler, the loyal harem, those in support of these toxic individuals do so for a variety of reasons including fear, retaliation, and or reward.

You must note that smear campaigns are just as destructive as the original abuse subjected too from these toxic situations.

You need not be in a romantic relationship either as these individuals can be anyone from a boss, coworker, family, friend, or clergy to name a few.

Manipulation, gaslighting, triangulation, love bombing, projection, mirroring, hovering, and the subsequent stockholm syndrome and more which are terms you will often here but may not have known about till now.

This book is crucial to understanding the various levels of the DSM Manual of personality trait disorders like malignant narcissism while focusing upon HSP individuals who are sensitive and empathetic while also loving and nurturing.

These are the ideal targets of this toxicity and should be on careful alert.

Shahida Arabi gives a number of concrete examples with real time actions as well as professional help for those who need such and it's noted in the author's notes it was with love that this book was written with the blessings from LCSW certified individuals.

A must read for all!

Book Review: "The Lakehouse" By Joe Clifford

Todd may have been cleared of his wife's murder but the real Banker Butcher is still on the prowl.

What comes next is a fiasco of shady individuals, and a dead woman's body that has washed up on shore next door.

It's a crazy dark underground of information surrounding a doctor and his patients.

" Sheriff Duane Sobczak’s investigation leads him to town psychiatrist Dr. Meshulum Bakshir, whose position at a troubled girls’ group home a decade ago yields disturbing ties to several local, prominent players, including a radical preacher, a disgraced politician, a down-and-out PI―and Sobczak’s own daughter."

My issue with it was it was way too much too process and jumped from one to another throughout the entirety with no real central focus but more of a wild goose chase.

Then it appeared as if we jumped too quickly from one topic to another and BOOM there is the killer.

Just not my thing but I hope it finds a good home.

Thank you to Joe, the pub, Netgalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "Magic Lessons" By Alice Hoffman

Words were magic!

Maria was accused of witchery with her own daughter Faith in tow.

Love was complicated.

However, when she was given up by her birth mom she was taken in by Hannah and taught a lesson, "Always love someone who will love you back."

This led her on a voyage literally aboard a ship without powers to a man whom if she opened herself up may have been able to assist her.

Samuel Dias was a man of many talents one of which may just be in saving others.

Hanging day is not something I'd expected to be reading about nor black crows and for Faith she believes he may have saved more than just her mom that day.

It's a deeply emotional read that's dark and gothic -perfect for those who love magical realism, fantasy, paranormal realm genre.

Thank you to Alice Hoffman, NetGalley, the publisher Simon Schuster and Amazon Kindle for this wonderful new ARC in exchange for this honest review.

This book baby will be coming out soon -October 6th 2020- so get a copy when you can!

Book Review: "When No One is Watching" By Alyssa Cole

“I need you to channel the confidence of a mediocre white man.”

― Alyssa Cole, When No One is Watching

Sydney is a recently unemployed African female on the verge of a mystery concerning her vanishing neighbors from Brooklyn and decides to conduct a tour about their African Heritage.

She decides to allow Theo her neighbor join in as her assistant and together these two uncover truths, revelations, and hardships together.

Life is fragile as we all know but life is also extremely difficult and soul defining and this book covers all those issues with clarity upon our diversity and acceptance of each other.

Humanity is at a crossroads. Our infrastructure is crumbling. Our country is falling and we are on the verge of losing our democracy. Social norms and indifferences are at a dead standstill with the rights of our fellow countrymen and women being tossed to the side.

Women's rights. Voting rights. Racial segregation. It's all vital to our country and we need to stop arguing. Get back to basics. Utilize communication while accepting our past mistakes and history.

In Sydney's case "revitalization" is being disguised as a far greater disaster known as 'eminent domain' resulting in ghost towns.

Condo's are being built in highly sought after locations without regard to property ownership, rights of citizens, or even rights of the individual by those with wealth, prestige, and power.

Sublime loans to minorities led to the housing bubble and or crisis.

But banks now own the land and the biggest lender to these new businesses are these banks.

Where did all the people go who left these communities? Is it a conspiracy?

What is up with the take over of the community garden?

How can anyone attempt to get a loan when we have no living wages?

What if one was to be tricked into giving up their rights of ownership for these housing loans that promise such grand opportunities of advancement?

Could there be more to this garden than meets the eye both literally and figuratively?

Buried secrets! BREAK AND REBUILD! Marginalized people can't continue to disappear-action is needed to end this insanity....

A great new read that if you're not careful may burn to the ground!

Book Review: "Bear Necessity" By James Gould-Bourn

“Who taught you how to dance like that?”

“A pole dancer called Krystal...” “…She taught me after I rescued her bathrobe that was stolen by a wizard who can set things on fire with his mind.”

Now folks, this was a Kleenex in hand kind of a book that truly catapulted you into the audience rather than as simply a reader.

That audience was right in the heart of the dancing bear...

Wait, what?

Oh, so sorry! Did I not mention this involved a single father named Danny with his son Will who just lost his wife (Liz)in a car accident and now is having financial troubles.

He's about to lose his rent if he can't come up with money and to make matters worse his talent consist of some bad dancing and not much else.

So, you pull up your bootstraps and you dance your arse off.

Of course in the process you uncover the street performance has it quirks including getting noticed and sometimes not by the right groups or gangs.

In fact, Will was shy and withdrawn following the death of his mom but he's since been found by his father during one of his performances to have been bullied too.

Now, it's a parents worse tight spot of problems as he must tell his son it's him under the costume and he witnessed it all.

An emotional tug of war ensues as this will be felt long after the last words.

Book Review: "Melania and Me" By Stephanie Winston Wolkoff

When you get stuck in the smoke, fog, mirrors, lovebombing, gaslighting, manipulation and more it's hard not to see the light.

I'm a happily divorced mom of three from an 11 yr union to a malignant narcissist and I wish I could say I didn't miss the warning signs especially having a Masters degree in Criminal Justice.

However, it's easy to become the hunted and not the hunter and in this case become part of the discard and devalue stage of life with these toxic individuals.

Having said this I also must note I run my own self help site, The Lost Self Life After Narcissism on FB  and do help others to heal and recover from having to deal with this type of personality trait disordered individuals.

With this noted the writing is on the wall and for those not familiar with narcissism beyond the vanity stage that's often noted then please get acquainted with the truth.

Operating from a false sense of self, blame and shame, smear campaigns, abuse of power, control, manipulation, brain washing, projection, mirroring, and much more is involved and yes, many as we are witnessing are dangerous.

This book for me was just another form of proof that even the most loyal are still discarded when they no longer serve a benefit to the ONE.

The truth of the matter is narcissist need a source of supply, they use enablers, they feed off the energy of others and will often mimic those behaviors as their own.

While this book wasn't an eye opener in terms of anything new it was a hard lesson to learn I'm sure for Stephanie and anyone who was placed in this spot of being ghosted and tossed to the side.

You must establish boundaries, limit contact, and know your own value and worth when having to engage with such toxicity otherwise the castle will fall upon you.

The need to feel superior and above the law is what is often in plain sight and that's not just egotistical in our case with the stake of our country and democracy on the line it's deadly.

We must VOTE BLUE!

God bless the USA

Book Review: "Chaos" By Iris Johansen

It's chaos literally as we forge through this madness and in the words of Iris," Cut off the heads of the snakes..."

This was a combo package with two different ideas: African girls in limbo and in desperate need of help along with Nisean horse and a racing horse named,"CHAOS."

You might wonder how on Earth do these two items combine for one fab read?

Glad you asked, as it relates to how these girls are being treated along with these horses as well as their living conditions and or lack of supportive structures to excel within the harsh environments.

How does one escape the wrath?

Carefully, precisely, and safely and that's what is in force in numbers here as we venture to explore not only the ties that bind but the scenes behind closed doors.

One of those girls -Sasha- was a fan favorite for me as she dared to go to no man's land and dared to take out the necessary guns to succeed.

The cycle has to end and in this case she made dam sure it did and I wouldn't recommend violence persay but in this case it was the right choice.

The connection between the girls, the horses, the plot twists were splendid and kept me highly entertained as it was like waiting for that loaded gun to go off.

Animals have a unique way of letting you know how they feel and the bucking or in laymen terms-throwing off- was exactly what they do when scared, frightened, or suddenly shocked.

This was a beautiful new piece by Iris Johansen that you won't want to miss!

Book Review: "The Burning Girls" By CJ Tudor

That was one of the greatest mind taxing, gothic twisting, crazy as hell ,twisty thrillers I've ever read by the master of suspense, mystery, intrigue and awe- no other than-CJ (CAZ) Tudor!

I won't beat around the bush and give pleasantries galore but I'm a huge fan that's more like a stalker; having read every one of her books and was floored in tears when she responded letting me know I was one of the first to read this newest work -The Burning Girls!

It was my honor and such a privilege because I've admired her for her strength, courage, charisma, and darkness of her writing style that leaps off the page and grabs you -forcing you-to not only take notice of her but to cheer her on!

I'm normally a speed reader/trade blogger/unpaid reviewer who goes through books like hot cakes but this deserved my undivided and special attention so I slowed it down to absorb every word.

If you're like me you love a great thriller that keeps you on your toes, guessing the mystery, feeling the intriguing suspense, and sharpening the claws for the next power struggle that you know is about to brew.

This has all that and more as The Burning Girls addresses not just deaths of Martyrs, but two missing girls presumed dead, the purge of the protestants, possible suicides, and several murders with several exploratory twists that will throw you off your game & your mark -so hold on tight!

Dolls have been made to ward off the 'girls vengeful spirits' as they may still be haunting the chapel.

If ever there was a time for prayer, reflection, hope...or scratch that ---we need prayer as a useful medium--stat!

If you're that hip and or cool parent like me you might've watched the Blair Witch Project and CJ Tudor has brought that to life in a whole mind blowing way right to your darn doorstep!

Let me ask you this: Do you believe in ghosts, witchcraft, spirits?

Did you answer, YES??

Ok, proceed to this question- Do you believe in faith, religious beliefs, persecution, heaven and or hell, the Devil and or Satan, God and or a higher power??

YES? Good!

Proceed to this- Do you believe this statement as factual: "Good does not always triumph over evil. Prayers do not win battles. Sometimes, we need the devil on our side."

Ladies and Gents we have a village that was stormed and so much evil resulted in its wake. These girls have experienced some of the worst of humanity and beyond.

With this noted, we need hope, we need prayers, we even may need a key to the chapel.

Oh, wait....got it --Rushton and Aaron are on it.

Look at this- Jack Brooks is the 'parent' of Flo who goes by a surname but I won't disclose that personal information.

We must come to grips with sin being eternal, with death being everlasting, and with the notion of evil being among us-toxicity isn't dressed up as the devil in disguise.

"The best place to hide is in plain sight."

Psychopaths are known for mixing in much like narcissists as they're chameleons-able to adapt to any environment-so don't forget it!

Church in the past was viewed as a place of salvation, rest for the weary, comfort zone if you will for those who have sinned. It was a place of warmth.

However, in recent years it's been a place where abuse of power, corruption, greed, have become the new norm and much of it is just coming to light.

CJ Tudor (CAZ) to friends is such a powerful writer that creates this land of the unknown in which you are dragged into (ok, I went willingly); and left to explore; before exiting back into the reality check of life.

I'm not sure how you can say this other than bullying, suicide, murder, and mayhem is on the menu and is being served up by various characters in an array of epic proportion for your reading pleasure.

A missing knife from the exorcism is the key like in the game of Clue but it doesn't end there as we embark on this journey that was captivating, exhilirating, and downright creepy.

Dust off the cobwebs, check that basement cellar, turn on the outside lights, get nestled in under that blankie and for God's sake don't SCREAM!!! You may wake up the ghosts...

My best advice -grab the journal-you'll need it. Jot down the notes to keep it straight. Focus, Focus, Focus my friends as you're in for the ride of your life.

I leave you the best way I know how and that's with another fine quote: "Darkness is exciting, darkness is fun, darkness is beautiful, darkness is kind."

So much action, suspense, thrilling take away memories on this one that I can't narrow it down to one plot, one character, or one twisty bender.

It's just chock full of 'Nuts' and I'm just that kind of woman that likes NUTS!

Do not be afraid of the dark because what kind of person would you be if you were?....

***As noted earlier, this was such an honor and a blessing to be chosen among the first to read The Burned Girls!

My life is now complete and I can carry on and I hope you as well get such a chance. It's a once in a lifetime treat.

Thank you to CJ Tudor (CAZ), her publisher, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Please pre-order, add to tbr, and get in line for this amazing new book!

Book Review: "The Lost Queen" By Signe Pike

“We may not always have the choice we would like. But we always have a choice.”

― Signe Pike, The Lost Queen

An interesting take as colonization and forced marriages while addressing Christianity and Anglo-Saxons is all on the menu for the taking.

Languoreth is in love with a warrior but sadly is forced into a marriage with the son of a Christian king.

What follows is a turmoil that brews and takes no prisoners.
The Lost Queen is the first in The Lost Queen Triology and the 2nd book I've read by Signe Pike (as I read out of order).

Her second in this series was equally as impressive and enjoyable so don't hesitate to get a copy of both when out and about as they will fully entertain and engross you into this fictional realm.
It's a great way to travel with a book.

Thank you to Signe, the pub, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "The Heir Affair" By Heather Cocks

“Men are like the monarchy itself, aren’t they? Splendid to look at, occasionally fun to have around, but cruel and pointless to the end”

― Heather Cocks, The Heir Affair

This reminds me of our current royals and the issues they too face with the public persona, queen's acceptance, and the entire royal drama that is a constant ebb and flow.
One thing is certain-Bex and Prince Nicholas are in exile- detached from the rest of the world after a scandal brought them down but not out.

Oh hell--NO! Never count out ROYALS!

No matter what they will weather these storms as they too shall pass.

By the way when we look at scandal be careful who we are looking at as those who throw stones and pass judgement are often hiding their own skeletons.

Might I remind the judge and jury that Eleanor and Richard are nursing some of their own personal wounds that are quite alarming.

Nick's father is another segway to look into as sometimes birth isn't birth by natural means.
There's plenty to get actively engaged in here as the characters are quite lively and active without ever pausing to catch a breath or a break.

An interesting read to say the least.

Thank you to my local libraries who provided this hard cover in exchange for this honest review during #CurbsidePickupMarathonReads a cute lil twitter hashtag I've created for showcasing new items from our local libraries to enhance reading.
