Book Review: "Hitler and His Women" By Phil Carradice

While I understand some may think this dictator had a softer side perhaps they're mistaken by the lack of knowledge of personality trait disorders and misconstrued subtlety for softness.

The idea that someone can MURDER 6 million Jewish men, women, and children and claim to have this other side is sick because this other side was nothing more than Jekyll and Hyde persona.

In fact this individual wore two masks- one in public and one in private and every malignant narcissist with similar personality trait disorders operates the same.

It's this attention, adulation, constant praise and pedestal placement as a God like human being above the law that created this mystique that some fell for as character.

These women in so-called romantic relationships were nothing more than pawns to stroke this man's highly egotistical alpha male needs via supply as targets of his ways.

Based on the DSM manual he falls in the range of NPD, sociopath, psychopath and while some felt he possessed this leadership quality what he possessed was the ability to be believable and credible while stealing the credit from others to claim as his own doing.

He was shy yet overly full of himself and disliked to be challenged, questioned, or not taken seriously.

His word was gospel to his enablers, followers, and loyal harem and yet, with this tough exterior this man hid like a coward in an underground bunker and committed suicide at his own hands.

Imagine that?

This is not a man this is a monster who should have received mental illness treatment.

Phil Carradice did a fantastic job not only in documentation and research but in civility and empathy as I wouldn't have been so kind in this discussion because I've lived this discard and devalue train wreck.

I know the trail of horror these toxic individuals leave behind yet the Goldwater Rule prevents such diagnosis without professional treatment.

What I can tell you is that these individuals need constant ego stroking and will manipulate, threaten, blame, shame, silence, and control their victims through any means necessary.

The author notes: How he could control or manage the switch from raving bully to understanding and considerate friend and manager remains a mystery.

Not for those who lived it because it's quite easy: It's all about power/control and these men will do anything to obtain it even if it means putting on a 'show' as a puppet master to gain so called friends and or loyalty. Yet, the minute these 'friends' no longer serve a purpose they will be tossed without a second notice.

Sure, these toxic people can be somewhat restrained for a period of time but eventually they blow, they react, they lash out against even their own family and friends.

Family to them is secondary and not priority. They cannot love others as they cannot love themselves. They will have sex as a 'mechanical act' but it means nothing and neither do their own partners.

My ex spouse told me he could have sex with anyone (having multiple affairs and children to many women) yet I was deemed his kept woman and business partner never his wife of 11 years, not the mother of his three kids (who nearly died to have them) nor the woman who gave up her career and masters to raise them for twenty years at her own detriment unable to re-enter the workforce.

Which then brings me to the next point that the author showcases the double end of the sword. That his womanizing was two fold. At one point he plays house but at the other end he puts women out of qualified roles in the workplace including preventing them from being judges, serving on jury duty, working a job, but rather being a homemaker.

"Hitler now stated publicly that he intended to take 800,000 women out of the workforce. They would be replaced by men. It was the brutal way of reducing unemployment."

The fact that this individual ever found his way into politics and power is not surprising given our current state of affairs in our own White House with the 45th what's surprising then as is now is why must history repeat itself and when will we ever learn the lessons it's meant to teach us?

Book Review: "The Perfect Nanny" By Karen Clarke

Edge of your seat thriller that may just make you think twice about your in-laws if you're married.

My word I have thought I heard it all but this one was a real chilling tale of a situation that grew out of control.

What would you do if you couldn't bare a child? Would you simply try alternate routes such as in-vitro, adoption, or would you choose more drastic measures?

This is the case here as we see Sophy Pemberton with a nine month old newborn named Finn and Dom the father all in one hand.

While in the other hand we have a mom/baby group with Liv Granger who is this nanny for hire in which she believes Sophy has this terrible back story and disturbing past.

Now, you might think what could be so important to do what's being accused here.
That's rather simple...Revenge, justice, an eye for an eye.

In fact, Liv believes her brother died because of this woman and she's out for vengeance.
Perhaps she's wrong, perhaps she's right, but either way she can play judge and jury.
Speaking of which - Kim Harrison- is a gal who has a gripe to pick.

She's also a woman who flies under the radar until the last minute along with another woman named Elizabeth the mother in law.

You may want to keep your eye on one or the other or both because either may strike at anytime.

Thank you to Karen Clarke, the Publisher, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Karen has created a masterpiece and this one deserves much applause and praise.
A must read for 2021!

Book Review: "The Last One Home" By Victoria Helen Stone

Ok, well it's not what I expect from Victoria Helen Stone as I know her work and this seemed a bit off base.

The Last One Home is really about a grown woman named Lauren uncovering the truth about her father's past that was told through the eyes of the mother post divorce and beyond.

Surely, not quite the personified version of events and nothing that really held anything of interest.

The girl's mother's name was Donna which was to close to home and so I was distracted mentally in trying to get to the meat of this one.

All in all it was extremely slow as the latter part with the twisters starts to form the book abruptly takes a nose dive and leaves the plot hanging in the breeze.

I just can't for the life of me understand the reasoning behind this but if you're looking for something out of the norm this is your sign.

Thank you to Victoria, the pub, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "A Million Things" By Emily Spurr

A Million Things is a beautiful story about a young child named Rae whose only 10 years old, his dog Splinter, and his older neighbor Lettie.

The story goes from an abandoned situation with his mother into a more heartfelt read from this child's point of view in correspondence with his neighbor who forge an unbreakable bond.
It was a nice story overall but nothing that really grabbed my attention or held me in that wrapped up emotional moment.

I seem to be in the minority so perhaps I'm a party-pooper and was in a cranky mood or something I mean we did have a small gas leak next door, then the cable guy came, and then my neighbor ran over to tell me my light on the porch was flickering so it's been quite an interesting day to say the least during this reading.

I do hope you find something to take from this book as it was a good read.

Thank you to Emily, the pub, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "The Three Mrs. Greys" By Shelly Ellis

You know the old adage -He's Busy- well this brings that one to shame as bigamy is no joke!

Step forth dear ladies and tell us your pitiful stories as we try to unravel this con artist is his ever loving glory.

Three wives - the first being married 11 yrs. and nobody had a clue there were two others.

Ok, ladies I married the King of this mess and trust me there's clues. Check the bank statements, see the work schedule, check in with colleagues, you know those late night get together dinner meetings, or those DC end of the year parties, how about the DC night life at the local hotel bar?

Did you check the mileage on the vehicle , monitor the phone calls, oh the darn blackberry always held clues to the whereabouts.

When the finances don't add up that's your sign. When the clothes are suddenly fashionable or out of the norm - you know when you go from neutrals to pastels -that's your sign. When you smell a new scent around his aura of charm and bs you know that's the sign.

New shaving cream, new workouts, new gym wear, come on now....We must stay vigilant - this gal did - and after 11 yrs of marriage I uncovered a treasure trove of information from phone calls, to meetings, to screwing the intern of only 8 month visit-Thankfully she's back in Arkansas and not running and or jogging with my husband.

Now, ladies when you contact her she won't wish to speak so let me tell you how this goes..."Oh, shiite your wife just called."

You know that reminds me I'm still waiting for my award of wife of the year for putting up with it all while raising our three kids alone and doing so 5 states away in poverty but I digress -do enjoy that 75 k a year job while we beg for food at the local food banks and volunteer for scraps.

Now, please we must know something is a bit off center but these ladies each possessed something that enticed and in fact gravitated this narcissist to them.

They smell desperation, they smell isolation, they smell lack of self worth and self esteem like a meatball hoagie at Subway. They know when to come and get it if business is open.

Shut it down!

As if this wasn't enough the latter of the three women has a shady past and Yes, I'm speaking to you -Diamond because girlfriend shiite's going downward fast.

Stand up ladies and take control.

You can't let this ass-hat take you for a ride.

Noelle if you want a baby go to the damn sperm bank -trust me it's less expensive, less aggravation, and at this point you might even get to choose your type.

Vanessa - don't go running to the hospital when you here your cheating man is in their but rather run for your life and get a different name entirely. Enjoy Cy Jr coach and play on. Or was that-Play BALL!

Darn my memory fades from all these revolving door scenarios but ladies remember the queen of cheating men knows this all too well - if you ain't lovin' yourself first you'll never find it out there.

Take care of yourselves and entertain yourself because the wrong people will find you and they may just use illegitimate ways to gain a foothold over you.

Much love.

Book Review: No Way Out By Fern Michaels

No Way Out is the newest thriller from Fern Michaels and it literally packs a punch.

It's a book about domestic violence and abuse and it's also about the aftermath of both as Ellie now lives as a recluse.

We find out the bits and pieces as the story slowly unravels when the neighbors try to pull her out of her shell and assist with yardwork and the like.

In fact as the story proceeds we learn of the coma Ellie suffered and then are introduced to other characters including Colleen, Jackson, and her husband Mitchel (the raging drunk). Ellie is actually a secondary character and not the story's protagonist.

It then becomes clear what we are dealing with and why she has no memory of the past all while dealing with new romances and the wrapping up of this story with a nice bow in the middle of this quaint little idyllic town in which everyone knows everybody and small town politics reign supreme.

Thank you to Fern Michaels, the pub, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "By Way of Sorrow By Robyn Gigl"

A legal thriller determined to make you sit down, shut up, and notice trans-gender injustices!

I'm not a person who normally reads LGBT books and in fact shy away from them because I cannot connect to them on a way that I feel is deserving for the authors and its fans.

However, I took this book not realizing it was part of this genre and found an entire new world surround trans that would never have been made possible if not for reading this new work from Robyn Gigl.

The injustices, the demeaning nature, the disregard for human life based solely on gender even when being worked through the justice system was disgusting ,dehumanizing, and cruel.

When Erin a trans herself goes to defend Sharise a trans prostitute facing murder we find a hoist of situations that arise with very little empathy from not only the judge but the prison system designed to hold individuals with respect and dignity.

It was truly a sad state of affairs but one in which the individual on the other end of the stick was running for a political position and it began to fall into place as to his own actions.

This was a good and solid read that I would highly recommend.

Thank you to Robyn, the pub, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Blog Tour Book Review: "The Bookstore on The Beach" By Brenda Novak

One thing is for certain this book has a ton of drama, sexual tension, and horrific incidences that take its toll upon three generations of women.

This is a blog tour read so first and foremost I want to thank Harlequin for this ARC in exchange for this honest review and blog tour.

In addition, Brenda Novak has always been a go-to author for me in my -A Lister- categories and she never disappoints with the elevated tension, family tragedy, and romance department.

Some reviewers have noted this isn't the type of beach read you'd normally expect and I think that's a fair assumption.

This does bring in many varied interests from sexuality, to teen pregnancy, to first and or second loves, to failed marriages, cancer, and sexual abuse of varied forms.

It's not a light hearted read nor is it something that's suitable for everyone so you must keep that in mind as this is listed as a chick lit, women's fiction, contemporary book.

For me Quinn was the man to beat as he seemed to hold the most interest for me as he pursued the woman of his dreams.

The daughter Taylor seems to have a huge problem as a sixteen year old girl not just with an unexpected situation but one that results in many hard core feelings in different venues to put it nicely.

In addition, the missing spouse is also in play here (Nick) and he may or may not be found by near end.

All in all this was an entertaining read with plenty of factors in play all at once that will draw you in and hold you close till the very last page is turned.

Thank you to Brenda Novak, the publisher, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "The Titanic Sisters" By Patricia Falvey

This was a  fantastic new piece from the wonderfully talented Patricia Falvey.

It begins with these two sisters Nora and Delia who escape the poor Irish farm life for one more extravagant American lifestyle.

As they embark on this journey aboard the Titanic they realize their dreams of being a treasured governess and a lowly maid position may not be obtainable.

The tragedy has resulted in each sister believing the other has passed away with the sunken ship.

When Nora uncovers her sister Delia is not only alive but working in the position held for her by stealing her identity it becomes a revengeful situation at hand.

The historical consequences, the research, the well written word it's all quite impressive and enjoyable as each characters was fully developed, unique, and entertaining in their own right.

The way in which this was written, the setting that became visually appealing, the use of language with Mayflower and others set the tone for what was to come.

Thank you to Patricia, the pub, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "The New Great Depression" By James Rickards

Not only the best but the most timely and accurate portrayal that I've read all year.

The New Great Depression doesn't focus solely upon tossing out numbers, figures, stats at the reader instead James Rickards provides an up front and personal view of not just how to manage our current economic crisis but to do so with expertise and skills that will help pay the bills.

Why not invest in gold when it's at 2k per ounce and may top at 3k ...

What do you have to lose in going back to work rather than waiting for the next stimulus?

With so many out of work it's not surprising that consumers are afraid to spend and are carefully squirreling away money like they did in the Great Depression.

One way to curb the worst crisis in American history is to play hard ball and WIN using savvy investor advice to not only survive but thrive and prosper.

Discussions centered around the real estate market, unemployment, stocks, treasury bonds, gold, the US dollar,  and so much more.

Sink or swim now's your chance to understand when, where, how, and why to do what needs to be done in order to stay afloat.

The new Corona virus has certainly caused a whirlwind for the restaurant, hospitality, recreation, and entertainment industries. This book would be ideal for those in this sector to understand the bad debt buckle of banks, deflation, bankruptcy, social disorder, and everything related to gaining traction to stay ahead.

This was so intriguing, inviting, and simplistic that anyone can learn and take away something to their advantage.

Thank you to James Rickards, the pub, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "Paradise Peak" By Janet Dailey

My favorite quote from Red, "who is forgiveness for, if not sinners?

Travel along the Great Smoky Mountains and you'll find Travis (ex-con) ready to forgive and forget as second chances rain supreme.

He runs into Red, finds himself a job, a new boss, and winds up with the boss's beautiful niece Hannah.

The problem is it was too neat and tidy as well as a bit tedious with a wildfire coming in over the horizon while the bad guy turned good hasn't a bad bone left in him.

Was he reformed during his stint in jail?

Well, not sure but it was just too perfect a scenario for me to get fully involved.

Thank you to Janet, the pub, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "Driven" By Rebecca Zanetti

“In the steamy light, bruised and battered, he looked like a conqueror of days gone by. Strong and wounded. His green eyes burned her with an intensity she'd never forget. In that moment he was everything.”

― Rebecca Zanetti, Driven

All eyes are on Nari -the shrink for the Rag Tag Deep Ops but there's a problem.
First- the guy we thought Angus had killed (Lassiter) is still alive. Second two men are after Nari and only one has good intentions.

It's truly just a matter of time before 'The Surgeon' strikes and now he's got Nari in his sight.
Willie Treeland is also on the wrong side of the receiving end and unfortunately he's been given the go-ahead to kill but he himself fell victim.

It's wise to read Hidden first as you'll get the back story to the deeply broken Angus who created HDD after his experience with this serial killer.

However, nobody would believe him that Lassiter was alive not then or now but things are slowly changing, alerting course, there's room for improvement.
"It’s not paranoia if they’re really out to get you…"

Truth be told there's plenty of hot romance, numerous action scenes, and tons of thrills, chills, and spills.

Go get 'em Roscoe!!

Folks: It's best to get yourself a copy and read this one-STAT!

Thank you to Rebecca, the publisher, Netgalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "Psychological Thriller Box Set" By Miranda Rijks

A wonderful collaborative collection of three amazing new works by Miranda Rijks in one lovely bundle.

As someone who enjoys thrillers and has read many of Miranda's pieces this one really stands out because they're all so well developed, engaging, and intriguing.

Having previously read the 1st in this collection -Roses Are Red- I was able to know what was expected from this author to build upon the expense for the next two books that I wasn't yet able to read till today.

Since I've previously reviewed Roses Are Red I'll spare all the details but suffice to say it was an excellent read involving a couple married 19 years and suddenly finding the spouse dead in the pool.

It then curtails into a nose dive with an affair that was uncovered with the best friends wife (Marianne and Ajay).

Lydia then is seen as a suspect alongside Ajay until the autopsy shows an electrocution resulted to cause the heart attack.

In the end it was financial abuse that resulted in dating a fraud who turned out to be anything but a knight in shining armor. This new guy Patrick seemed to be a dream come true but was a monster in disguise.

His sidekick Fiona was in on this extravagant plot to take down Lydia and kill her in exchange for this wild devotion to one another.

In the second part of this collection: Deserve To Die we find Dom and Stacey having a perfect life till Tamara spoils their terrain.

Tamara is a wild card who is Craig's girlfriend. She takes over Stacey's life going so far as to deem Stacey incapable of raising her kids and having her placed in a psych ward.

Isn't it nice that she went to visit her there? UGHH- spare the expense.

Now, we find that Jeanie is Tamara's mom who sheds some extra light on this topic.

Did Tamara kill Dylan? Well, we don't know because she's vanished.

Dylan and Zachary both committed suicide or did they?

It may be all going back for evaluation after the truth's been shed. In fact, she may simply turn back up on the beach.

Who knows but what I do know is that this was a twister that kept me entertained.

In the finale we have : You Are Mine in which we find Rupert searching for his perfect wife.

You know the old saying what you want you can't always have.

This is that story as it's sick, twisted, and deeply dark with madness entering the picture.

Rupert prepares this punishment room for Charlotte his victim.

Sadly, Charlotte met this whack nut during an artist rendering in which she was paid to paint him.

Now he's holding her captive in his dungeon fit for a queen.

He's learned from the best you could say as his father also has a deeply troubled past.

Jodi her sister is now seeking answers to Charlotte's whereabouts with the police actively engaged.

Eventually she's able to escape from the wrath but not before having to use her wits to take the wheel and do her own sort of justice.

The fact that these two may have a familiar interest is disturbing as Rupert's dad clearly was a busy man with Simone.

The interaction and discussion that then centers around Simone was truly captivating, scary, and intriguing all the same.

This was an fab thriller pack that I hope everyone gets a chance to enjoy.

Thank you to Miranda Rijks, the pub, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "Waiting for the Night Song" By Julie Carrick Dalton

This was off the beaten path yet it magnified the current sentiment about immigration status, the challenges they face in coming over the border, and the humanity of it all.

Whether or not your stance on the issue of immigration these are our brothers and sisters, they are from the human race, they deserve our consideration when fleeing for their lives.

In addition, this was also about the current state of our forests, the lack of controlled burns, the inability to help keep our natural habitat up to par especially with concerns over the ash beetle, the bark beetle, and similar problems facing these creatures.

This story took off at a steady pace in a controlled manner that allowed for the room to present the case before us concerning Raul, Juan (who sadly passed away) and Garett who was injured in the aftermath.

The secrets one keeps are on full display here as well as the truth that was kept from the family members. It was heartbreaking to see the length many of these individuals went to in order to save one another.

"Carlos" will be always be remembered for his life not his death.

Clyde might not have known about Raul's past in El Salvador nor did Dolores know the extent of his threats upon Cadie all those years ago. However, healing is a gift that we give to one another.

Time creates that portal to heal.

Sal might not have known about Clyde's role in the shooting at the convenience store nor did Daniela know Sal fired the gun at Garett.

Raul might not have known that Garett killed someone else or that his wife buried him in a shallow grave.

You see the point of it all is this: "One moment doesn't define a person's life."
"It's what you choose to do after that determines who you are."
If you continue burying each other's truths the chain would never end so truth be told someone had set the hardware store on fire.
Someone knew who did it?

How far would they go to hide it all?
Don't let fear and anger win.

#CadenceUnderFire is more than just a hashtag.

Cadie's complicit in her actions to hide the nam
e, the body, the history. But she cannot hide from the shame nor the truth.

The truth shall set you free and this novel is a great way to showcase those truths.
Absolutely enjoyed this one and I hope you do as well.

Thank you to Julie Carrick Dalton, the pub, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "We Could Be Heroes" By Mike Chen

One is a 'Mind Robber' while the other is a 'Throwing Star' meeting up at a memory loss & detention center to make nice friends.

One of them wants to fly away to the Caribbean with his cat while the other wants to simply learn about her past.

As if this isn't quirky enough throw in some robberies with memory loss for his Caribbean slush fund (retirement) while the other is a bully of sorts beating up people with her super hero powers for the fun of it all.

He's got this crazy cat that's anything but Normal yet that's the name of the animal. While she's dealing with alcohol issues.

So while the heck not become super heroes?
Uhmm.... Ok?! I think?!

Oh, wait there's more because Zoe is a Asian American with amnesia serving the food industry while Jamie is our lone British-American Bank Robber suffering from the same.

Neither, really did much for me other than to tag along with the storyline.

In a nut shell it's about being present, staying authentic, and trusting your heart strings in this newest work in which we're all equally flawed and insecure.

Book Review: "Killer Politics" By Norman Brewer

For a satire book this one had all the bells and whistles but why must every crazy person stem from Pennsylvania?

Do we not have home grown terrorist and whack jobs around the country?

The fact that this was meant to be funny was also at odds with the seriousness of some of what was discussed including a near assassination attempt, man hole cover uncover operations, and major electricity grid disruptions to name a few.

All in the name of martial law is exactly where we were headed with the former 45 and thank god people voted his arse out to the curb.

The notion that a man of his demeanor, character, and position as a reality star with a history of failed relationships, business dealings, and financial planning could somehow make or buy his way to the top is quite the story in and of itself- don't you think?

However, gassing your own people, serving up military style parades, and showcasing the worst of America is not what I had in mind after I've divorced my own malignant narcissists.
Yes, we have them here too these narcs who must crave the spotlight, the adulation, the praise as if their momma's never gave them love.

Please do us a favor and keep the alpha male egocentrics out of office. Take the "Tower" guy back to the cave he dug himself out of and put him back in their for the future.

He should've been held criminally responsible and not been able to serve another 4 year term but sadly, we have incompetent individuals who don't vote their conscious but rather what their greed and corrupted counterparts align them up to do because after all it's all about securing that precious seat.

As for this book it was good but nothing that really swayed me one way or another.
Hacked computers, contaminated pollutants, and spy ware like drones are all part of the norm I'm afraid to say these days.

Book Review: "Love Me Dead" By Lisa Renee Jones

An abrupt ending to an interesting new saga between Lilah and Kane with the boss on stand-by.

All in all this series has been rather vague, brief descriptions, chasing nightmares, following leads and everything seems to lead to a pony chase throughout this maze of suspects.

In this one we go from the former Gamer to now the Umbrella Man and it's getting quite ludicrous in many areas.

The killer demands she step up or more blood will be shed. Speaking of which the past tattoos were about the 'blood tattoo' meaning it bleeds because you bleed.

Perhaps, we now build on this theory with this unusual cliff hanger that leads to the fourth in this series of Lilah Love novels.

Walking towards the light is one thing but walking towards your enemy and the guy you're now chasing may be a double edged sword.

Guess, we can only wait and see and check in on the next powerful read from this author.

Thank you to Lisa Renee Jones, the publisher, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "Murder Girl" By Lisa Renee Jones

Murder Girl builds upon the first in this Lilah Love series with strength, determination, and will power.

The characters seem to become more infused with energy and stamina to go the distance. Each brings something to the table to discuss.

In this case, we uncover some of the pieces to the first puzzle in which the Mendez Cartel is out there on the prowl. They are responsible for the kidnapping of Lilah's own family member.

Her story builds upon the sexual assault on the beach, the buried memories (we shall say with her and Kane), and adds more complex situations. Kane still comes up as an Ass-Hat but that's just my personal opinion as he's abusive and lack luster in the alpha male category of men.

The overall modus operandi is to uncover the truth from where we left off with the dead Romano patriarch in the garage. He was in the process of providing her evidence/clues till he was silenced.

This time we learn that the notes are left behind from a 'stalker' who may or may not be named," Junior."

As the newest message- W is for warning- is very dark, disturbing, and enough of an alarm that it has everyone on edge.

Someone wants Society taken and it may or may not be centrally located around this Virgin Mary necklace.

There's evidence of several dead bodies but Junior may not be the only gamer in town.

The Assassin may be alive and well and looking for targets.

That's all I can offer up on this one but I'm off to read The Poet by Lisa Renee Jones so till we meet again. Have a great day!

Book Review: "The Longest Echo" By Eoin Dempsey

Absolutely riveting, jaw dropping, and deeply emotional.

This splendid new work by Eoin Dempsey creates a whole new aura around this time period which has been overly redundant in the history genre.

Needless to say just when I thought I've read them all this new gem pops up on my kindle lost among the shuffle and finds its way to my heart.

The setting begins in 1944 with Liliana who assists POW escapee James Foley behind German lines in an attempt to get to allied lines.

The heartfelt magnitude of raw feelings is powerful between these two while also captivating audiences with the human component of what the Germans were trying to accomplish as sickening and disheartening as it was to become.

Reuniting 12 years later was quite the treat as they uncover the hidden truths and story between one another that reverberates and echoes long after it's told.

The scene in which the S.S. officer is confronted just brought chills as a reader because it felt like you were there and having to account for the sins of those who came long before.

Werner Breck was the man in charge yet he denied any wrongdoing as many of these Nazi officers noted, as simply following orders yet, we know from historical accounts that these men were never punished or facing anything similar to what they gave out to unsuspecting victims of this war crime.

Sadly, as was noted the Germans killed everyone.

I'm so glad this so called family man aka Richard Klement got what he deserved as I know it's not an eye for an eye but sometimes justice does prevail.

Thank you to Eoin Dempsey, the pub, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "Murder Notes" By Lisa Renee Jones

Have you ever finished a book and wondered what was the main goal or central purpose?

I understand having multiple partners is cool for some but why the love triangle centering around Rich (our La guy), Kane Mendez (fiancé of Lilah), Samantha, and Lilah's brother.
The book started off fine with Lilah being drugged and these crazy notes being left all around like the 'M is for murder' style but then it went crazy with bed hoppers and so I wondered what happened to the intro which claimed she a FBI profiler now on the hunt for the killer with ties to her past.

Flashbacks resulting from her previous attacks and brutish brutalities come to light but she's now on the smack down against any woman who comes her way.

So, the final question is what happened the last day on the beach and who is the ultimate killer is on the line. This guy Romano then shows up unable to move in a chair in this Lilah Love the first of the series.

This wasn't what I was expecting but I hope you enjoy it.

Book Review: "Let Her Lie" By Bryan Reardon

For those who were born in the 70's you may never look at yellow neon Sony Walkman's the same way after the Halo Killer had his day.

Unfortunately, for me this wasn't much of a thriller but more of a crime novel in which we find ourselves being led through this maze of questions and answers via a documentary that was brought on by Theo Snyder.

Theo had success with his first documentary on, The Basement, as is now hoping to meet up with Jasper -the Halo Killer- to get his side of the story while in prison.

Everything that happens in between is a bit of a frenzied mess and is rather alarming as well as confusing and I'm not sure the point of it all.

What I can say is that there's a Miracle Baby who learns of her DNA through ancestry analysis while she herself is pregnant. This miracle baby recalls past memories about her mother and reads these left over articles so she's soaking it up like a sponge and it's taking a toll on her emotions including her relationship with the father of her baby- Eddy.

Sadly, this young lady was left for dead in a bathroom sink after her mother was murdered.

As if this wasn't bizarre enough readers are then going through this back and forth saga in which the Halo Killer escapes from prison and he may have had help.

Who would want this man out in public among us?

Investigator Zora Monroe was also present helping to find missing people.

All in all it was ok but nothing that was mind blowing.

Book Review: "The Power Couple" By Alex Berenson

The reason I'm rating this one low is quite simple: I for one hope and pray women will stop being painted as nothing more than meat markets, eye candy, sexual favors.

It's ad nauseum having several reasons that offended me as a strong female. First, the kidnapping and subsequent ransom for Kira while forcing her to conduct business on her captors wasn't cool.

The fact the author seemed to write it into the script like it meant nothing to perform these oral acts and sexual actions wasn't sitting well. The notion that the word 'twat' was used to describe the vagina in which items were hidden just added up to a lack of disgust.

At this point I wondered where or when the strong feminine roles would enter the scene and eventually Kira escaped her two ass-hat abductors.

Rebecca the mother also felt like the odd ball as she's going on for getting along both in her career and her marriage. Does anyone think on their own and not settle?

Well, supposedly both parent (Rebecca and Brian) had a shady past involving Russians, espionage, high stakes money, and more.

In the end, they discover that "Till death do us part" takes on a bit of weirdness in which each tries to take the life of the other using whatever items necessary.
Where does a FBI agent get epinephrine is my first question?

How does one make a boat ride turn into a heart attack....well, I can't tell but it's nuts.
In addition, the entire premise was to be about Kira but it turns out she's busy playing with fire and escaping while her parents were looking for her but then somehow started this back story power play into each other's past history.

I think for me it would've been better to know the past history prior to the teen going missing as it all became quite a mess mid stream with abductions, casino tie -ins, Fyodor, and Russian involvement, and all that jazz at the dance club while conducting a search and rescue.
Too much is too much for me.

Book Review: "Hummingbird Salamander" By Jeff VanderMeer

A security consultant named Jane receives the coveted key to unlock a taxidermied hummingbird with clues in the envelope for further evaluation of a taxidermied salamander.

Silvina, the woman who's now deceased provided this information as a reputed eco-terrorist and as the daughter of an Argentine industrialist.

Taking this hummingbird results in some serious penalties.

Now, I'm not sure about you but this whole sci-fi stuff is hit or miss for me and this one missed the mark.

While I enjoyed the idea and originality plus this gorgeous cover I simply couldn't connect with anything includes the names of some of the locations that seemed to be out in left field when listening to audio.

So, I'm not sure if Silvina is the same as what sounded like Solvino on audio but hey- I'm pushing 50 so I'm going to hope for the best as I had tubes in my ears as a kid so give me some slack. LOL.

If you bare with me what I can tell you is that Langer seems to be the wildlife trafficker and isn't on the most popular list of fellows.

"Hellmouth Jack" took Jill captive at one point as they searched for this mining exploration which came up empty.

It sounded to me like Contilla is another piece of this puzzle that somehow fits into this whole eco-bound world of mystery. In fact, Yuna Topa and Yoka pompa (made masks)was mentioned along with Shuffle Pig, Native American Reservations, Right Wing Terrorists , and more.

What I can note is this:  What can we believe in ? The world has turned upside down People no longer connect or speak. "Some people believe in nothing."

The memories we hold are of people we barely know or care about if we're being honest with each other.

So, then the main question is how did Salvina get hold of a salamander? How did the darn thing die?

Add to this mess: "A bomb to destroy a bomb."

Federal government's in crisis. We live in a failed state. The world has gone mad.

The dead salamander is now in an unmarked grave but how did it pass?

Can we get hope from this salamander?

Imagine if you will these hummingbirds flutter around us while we destroy their territory.

This is the point of all this mental madness .

This was quite lengthy on audio and took me almost an entire day listening at 1.75 speed on Kindle to get this review completed.

It was complex, it was exhaustive, and it was demanding of your time to keep it all straight and gain some understanding of the complexities of it all.

Set aside some valuable time to make sure you grasp it all in its entirety.

It's time to pull yourself out of this portal and go home. Till we meet again.

Thank you to Jeff VanderMeer, the publisher, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this Audio ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "The House of Killers" By Samantha Lee Howe

Anna aka Neva is who she's become via the Network who are mostly handlers.

She's been taken since the age of five, conditioned, trained, and made into one you now see before you by a woman handler known as Tracey Herod.

Brainwashing, repetition, and drugs were used to conquer the goal of forgetting their past lives while creating a new dangerous line of work.

Could Neva have been Simone Arquette's daughter Amelie? Could addition parents be involved in the grooming of their own children?

Meanwhile, Michael is an agent with M15, recruited to this special task force called Archive, in which he'll used his knowledge, special training, and expertise to assist with cold cases.

Although, the intensity and the attraction seems to big to ignore and when things hit the fan it's all hands on deck-literally and figuratively between Michael and Neva.

Meeting the parents is a big deal and these two seem to getting to know each other well -perhaps- too well.

What if she turns on him? What if she kills him and or his parents?

Can you trust someone whose been through so much heartbreak, who doesn't possess empathy, who lacks emotion?

What if Michael shows the other side of himself? What side should we believe?

Can they get through this together?

A great new read that hits all the right spots.

Book Review: "The Lies and Crimes of Sweet Caroline" By Darren Wills

In a world of cruelty, neglect, abuse, and punishment the skin becomes hardened, the crime more intricate, the severity more enhanced.

This is the story of one woman who was neglected in her childhood, tossed away by her own mother, and when her own acts of cruelty are turned upside down the only one she might be able to save is herself.

However, she may not be alone. There's so much more to this story than what meets the eye.
She's a survivalist, selling her soul to support herself, blackmailing those who get actively engaged with this underground world of sexual activity.

It's not the lifestyle of the rich and famous but hell she'll take what Caroline can get while riding high with her girlfriend and partner by her side.

This ending was interesting but as other reviewers noted sometimes less is more. This was complex, intricate, and extremely detailed with very small wording to fit the page. I could enhance the page but I didn't want to make this one an all nighter.

All in all it's not a bad read for a first time chance to experience Darren Wills work.
Thank you to Darren, the pub, Netgalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "The Other Emily" By Dean Koontz

Why does this song come to mind, "Like a Bridge Over Troubled Waters?"

I'm not sure myself but what I can tell you is this is a Dean Koontz classic that's ripe for the picking with all the specialties that are all his own making.

We have everything of a mixed bag and ladies the kitchen sink's included in this one. There's a whack nut serial killer named Ronny Lee Jessup who confessed to playing a role in the disappearance of 27 women.

Plus, we have for added enjoyment several -A Listers- such as David Thorne - who takes so much heat for merely wanting to find his gal -Emily Carlino. David's a writer on a mission you could say to find Emily and get her back. She's was the love of his life and it's not fair that she was taken as the guilt is unbearable.

Now, I'm sworn to secrecy but this story line is off the wall with that sci-fi, dystopian, futuristic feel in which the past might just be the present and beyond.

You see sometimes I fall in love with things that I wish I could bottle it up and save it all. Well, that idea of cloning an exact replica is in play here too but with a twist of lemon and bit of honey.

I mean it's like two for the price of one -like that buy one get one sale if you get my drift.

The answers you seek are hidden in the context so beware.

As if I didn't entice you enough I can also note that there's some creepy shiite going down in the basement.

Controlling others, transmitting consciousness, importing and exporting ideas from one to another. Wouldn't that be a treat? I'd use it on my ex spouse- take the good parts, misplace the bad ones- and bing, bang, boom - I'm in business.

I digress, because in this story it's all about ratcheting up the interests, getting the unbelievable to become the believable, keeping everyone on their toes. Yes, that includes Emily (whose safely tucked away), Maddison, and oh, yes...Anna.

Have you seen those avatars on Facebook- I love sending those to my kids- here's an idea. What if we could experience life as a human as an avatar?

Just saying- take that for a spin - if you will.

Now, what I must note is that Ronny was arrested three years later for his actions but he's not entirely out of the woods.

Could this Maddison gal really be Emily?

Oh, wait one second--Stuart Ulrich is on the scene prowling around. You know the only people I know who prowl is rapist, lurkers, pervs, and stalkers. So, which one is this freak?

Can't tell you but that's why you might want to run out and get this one.

Thank you to Dean Kootz, the pub, and Goodreads Giveaway for this kindle exclusive.

Book Review: "The Forgotten Orphan" By Glynis Peters

Glynis Peters has created a lovely story with The Forgotten Orphan in which love always finds a way to one another's hearts.

The story begins during WWII with economic uncertainty and prosperity on the back burner because many were simply struggling to survive while battling for their nation.

Men were being shipped overseas while women were finding new roles in the workplace with feminism rising within factories and beyond.

All of this seemed to falter to the side when Maisie Reynolds sought to find her twin brother Jack whom she was separated from after being sent to Holly Bush Orphanage.

I'm certain I read this book twice as I was on the finished page when I began but it's ok to read things twice as I enjoyed it just as much the second time.

Cam is the Canadian paratrooper that swoops in during the second half of this story to steal Maisie's heart - a heart that had been damage from being isolated without companionship or parental guidance.

She's longed for this romance as she tended to the war-torn- injured soldiers of this era in the hospital beds.

This was a book that had a strong plot, various characters that took hold and accountability, and numerous sticking points that brought it all home.

The ending was superb with a nice twist in finding the time to get a gem and securing a hand to hold.

Book Review: "A Fatal Lie" By Charles Todd

A terrified boy finds a head snagged on his fishing line and somehow readers are to keep their wits about them?!

Ok, I'll try but that in and of itself was enough to make me run and hide -I don't know about you?

I've been a fisherwoman all my life and so this one struck a cord as this poor guy-Sam Milford- had so much going for him and sadly, ended up at the bottom of this aquaduct all battered up.

Was he pushed or did he mysteriously fall?

Ian comes to the rescue to uncover the hard facts but this one isn't going as easy as one might think.

There's an entire backstory to process not just with our first victim but with the next two as well and all fingers point to several shady individuals with motives.

First, we're introduced to Sam's daughter after his death whose named Tildy which is quite unusual but not as unusual as her history and sadly those of other children in her dilemma.

In fact, many kids are viewed as runaways, orphans, and the like but they do have family and may be troubled but not lost.

Just food for thought but in my world we also have shady men who like to have their cake and eat it too. However, in this case the mother Ruth might add a bit more of this power play in force.

Affairs of the heart, mind, soul or whatever you shall calm them there's really no serendipity only victims especially after murder.

Who killed whom? That's the question as everyone seems to have opinions with no really solid leads until Sam's sis comes on board, and then Mrs. Milford adds her two cents (Thanks -Ruth) and then, well shall we say a lover is in and out of this picture.

For real, this is all over the place in terms of mighty hefty action and suspense.

Will the real killer x3 please stand up!...Ok, boys take him away. Bantham officers need not apply.

I'm out of here, till we meet again, thank you to all those who provided this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

Book Review: "On Cold Ground" By DS Butler

On Cold Ground by DS Butler brings together corruption, blackmail, bribes, and crooked individuals hiding behind a chapel and a bloody cross.

Just when you think this is going in a certain direction you learn that you've been taken for a ride literally and figuratively and Sam isn't the only one left behind.

Folks, DS Butler has never disappointed her readers and with this Fifth in the Series piece involving Detective Karen Hart you know that sizzlers is the name of this game.

The Cleanser is on the prowl. Individuals are turning up all over the place with weird markings and ritualistic killings.

Yet, we must wonder - WHY?

What is the motive? Why is this sick person doing this?

The story progresses quickly to one of jaw dropping action, suspense, and mystery.

The intrigue is in uncovering the truth and catching the killer but it won't be a simple open and shut case.

In fact, one person has just put the gun to his own head and asked Karen to give his daughter his love.

Dangerous! Dark! Twisted!

It's escalating rapidly so hold on tight.

There's more than one person and there's more nightmares coming around every corner.

The issue is getting creepy as more of these messages are being found after the slayings..." I'm closer than you think."

Does this person know the stakes are higher than prior. The price to pay has just escalated beyond belief.

Karen's neck is literally on the line. Can DS Hart survive to bring justice to the families?

Anthony, Lloyd Nelson, Laurel Monroe  are gone but they're not forgotten.

Their memory will live on but our Top Dog is about to go DOWN! No doubt, he's not working alone either. Churchill may have got the ball rolling but many have helped this one pick up steam along the way. In fact, seven in all as henchmen but more may be working behind the scenes.

This story has everything a thriller should with plenty of guessing kept in check right till the very end.

You'll never be able to figure this one out ...

Loved it! A must read!
