Book Review: "The Soul Of A Woman" By Isabel Allende

What do women want?

Is it power, prestige, respect, admiration, acceptance, love, empathy, compassion, or respect?

In a world full of authoritarianism, discipline, hatred, animosity, greed, toxicity, and rebellion-Be the light and go forth with pride!

Women have long learned that to be silent is to lose one's voice and seat at the table.

We are to stand up, we are to continue against the long held myths of submission, we are to believe that we matter.

We are not shaped by our bodies, minds, or talents however, we are human and with such we are perfectly flawed.

The idea behind this writing is to understand that life does go forth with new hopes, new dreams, and new ideas.

That feminism may be a word that brings up certain connotations to authority and brashness it's also a word full of meaning and strength. Pride is one another and pride in oneself.

"So, what feeds the soul of feminists-and all women-today?" "To be safe, to be valued, to live in peace, to have their own resources, to be connected, to have control over their bodies and lives, and above all, to be loved."

As the author notes: On all these fronts, there is much work yet to be done, and this book, Allende hopes, will "light the torches of our daughters and granddaughters with mine.

They will have to live for us, as we lived for our mothers, and carry on with the work still left to be finished."

In reading this new piece, I can attest to the tenacity and drive of Allende and her will to not only be all of the things everyone women strives for but to do so with dignity, grace, compassion, and a level of understanding that's not preachy but warm and inviting.

I'm honored to have read this work via my local library during these difficult times and I hope everyone has a chance to work together for a brighter and more compassionate world.

We need hope, we need peace, and we need unity -above all else- we need LOVE!
