What if it doesn't work out- Oh, my dear -What if it does!!!
We all need a nudge both in our lives and beyond and this one focusing on altering your course in life, second chances, and whether or not you'd take that chance knowing how things turned out.
What if you could watch from up high- your life in the moment- would you let it take its course, would you change it, would you settle, would you strive for more, would you even care?
Golden Girl is a magnificent view at divorce, loss, milestones, humility, peace, fragility, and forgiveness.
The fact that so many of these characters displayed a relatable tone to each scene was splendid.
The story starts off sadly with our mom of three (Vivian) being struck down by a hit and run driver. She passes on and is offered an opportunity to spend the last summer watching from above with 3 nudges provided by Martha to change the course of the happenings below.
Of course, Vivi, was an affectionate woman but also a scorned woman. She loves Nantucket, she was the matriarch of the family, she held that spot of 'pushing the family forward' on her own shoulders. She seemed tired yet, hopeful for change, direction, and a sense of appreciation for a job 'Well done'.
Her three kids are processing life in their own ways on their own time. Willa is on her third miscarriage which she has in common with her mother in some form of truth and perceptions.
Carson is the party goer and the guys most likely to get fired for more than a few disturbing situations.
Leo on the other hand is the guy with a girlfriend but a change in heart - you can say.
Now, I can't give out too much but suffice to say that Brett Caspian is the guy behind the Golden Girl song that he wrote for his high school sweetheart.
He attended the memorial for Vivian and created quite a splash. He was the talk of the town in more ways than one. Media buzz was swirling.
In return, we have J.P. or as those who knew him more appropriately called him Edward William Quinboro. This individual seemed to carry some mixed feelings for Vivian, in life, love, and loss. It's this maturity and development that set the tone for the remainder of the scenes to come in this new novel.
Some may call these 'beach reads' but for me these are also doubled as 'thrillers.'
This situation focuses on the lies we tell, the karma train, the bitterness, the thoughtful reflections, and the act of forgiveness not for them as much as for yourself.
You cannot move forward in carrying the baggage of others. Let it go. Be happy. Live life.
Things have a way of working out on their own. The miracle of life is that we are not in full control. Our time is marked and our beliefs, morals, values, ethics are tested while here on Earth.
The legacy you leave is up to you.
Thank you to Elin Hilderbrand, Little Brown and Company, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.
