Book Review: "Admission" By Julie Buxbaum

A bribery scandal that rocks the nation is upon us all with numerous similarities to the Laurie Loughlin's case as a B-lister, two daughters, Netflix flops, and plead guilty!

Sometimes fiction is almost better than real life!

With the current college admission scandals via celebrities and wealthy elites circulating around the news this is a great time to come out with this newest novel by Julie Buxbaum simply entitled, "Admission." However, this takes a slightly different turn with not so wealthy family, Schola (immigrated Nigerian family) & Chloe's bestie who is goal driven and self motivated, and with Chloe's admission info doctored or photoshopped via the assistance of a doctor who at one point tried convincing ADHD was the culprit.

Keep in mind Chloe dreamed of attending SCC the most highly ranked college similar to her friends attending Harvard only to learn that while waiting for what she assumes is a package delivery she's visited by FBI knocking at her door for her mother with guns drawn.
Talk about a rude awakening....

Chloe can't help but ponder the meaning of life after her mother is taken out in handcuffs for bribery scandal.

The press is in a media frenzy. The Attorney General's out for blood. The entire nation is watching and waiting with baited breath for a conclusion.

This was a fascinating read that I came upon via my fellow reviewers at Goodreads. Many have written fab reviews proclaiming this a great read. I couldn't wait to jump aboard when I noticed this was available to reserve at my local library.

What a treat to be so taken back to the days of college dating, life as a young adult at the prime of your life, and parents who would do anything to see you succeed.

What a life for Chloe yet what terrible drama to have to endure at an early age. The lessons learned is outnumbered only by the trauma this family experienced at the hands of greed.
Corruption is so often seen these days in which everyone is trying to get ahead. Rules are being broken yet very few pay the ultimate price of even a prison sentence or jail time. Many get off with shortened sentences or a slap on the wrist with a warning or fine.
For the impoverished, immigrants, or those not of a specific ethnicity the damages are far greater than what we see here.

All in all one splendid read with plenty of satire, drama, and action to keep even the over 40's happy with this young adult genre. As a mom of three teens (all grads in 2021 with eldest going for BA, second entering college, and youngest entering high school) it's an interesting concept.

Thank God my kids are much more talented than myself with high honors and NHS inductees because this gal wasn't as gifted in that department. I was able to enter college with special acquirements since my testing on admissions or entry placement wasn't over the top.
I proceeded to get my Masters with all honors and induction into honor societies so never judge lack of common sense for lack of intelligence. LOL.

I hope you enjoy this review as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Please check this one out!
