Book Review: "The Boy In The Field" By Margot Livesey

Entering into the world of literary fiction-this is truly powerful-as we embark on a journey that is thoughtful, reflective, imaginative, and all consuming! It has style, depth, and dimensions that are beyond wild!

How you decide to decipher the meaning within the words is up to you but suffice to say this was magnificent with pure heavenly bliss.

The family of three teen siblings will be forever changed, altered, and deeply affected by that day walking down a road after waiting for their father's arrival.

Yet, the turmoil, the visions, the near death experience of a young man leads to another young man injured named Ant.

This leads to a series of undercover work, fine detective skills, and sleuthing among them all but one thing is for certain what they witnessed alters their actions, their words, their mental mindsets.

Matthew is one who probably dreams of becoming a detective as he's emotionally connected on many levels. As the eldest, he's obsessed with the case of Karel -the young man found in the field -unconscious! He's a believer in truths not conspiracies and will go to great lengths to unbury the evidence.

Meanwhile, Zoe is like our wild child -a risk taker-determined to make her own way and have a blast doing so while having an affair with a philosophy graduate student! YIKES! She's not about to change her ways for anything or is she?

On the other hand Duncan is my man! He's empathetic, nurturing, compassionate, loving, talented as an artist with numerous visions. He's a believer, a man of hope and inspiration, a future that's bright!

As each encounters their own remarkable feelings on the matter we have an incident on a scooter that really brings things to light. Life is short but also dangerous!

The angle of the interpretation is left up to the reader but my word...I'm blown away on this one! The fact that he's about to uncover the reality of his biological mother is saddening yet heartfelt with plenty of emotional appeal.

What's scary is what happened to Karel and Ant can truly happen to anyone and it's a wake up call for many.

I'm thrilled the ending worked out the way it did without leaving any unanswered questions to ponder. Duncan deserved no less than the truth.

The artistic piece in the end was the perfect way to sow the loose threads and have a lasting memory to take away and I for one will never soon forget this masterpiece!
