Book Review: "What Could Be Saved" By Liese O'Halloran Schwarz

Enthralling! Captivating! Historically Gripping! Deeply Engaging!

I'm not sure what else I can say other than I was left speechless.
First and foremost a huge digital hug goes out to ATRIA books for this e-read ARC copy via Netgalley.

My biggest and only complaint is that I wasn't able to get to this gem sooner because this has everything enticing in one beautiful novel.

Love, empathy, compassion, thrillers, chillers, and historical perspectives that would entice just about anyone to pick it up and get lost in this journey.

Speaking of the journey it's a dual timeline with numerous characters but those who follow my reviews know I get lost easily if there's too much back and forth with difficult to follow characters. This wasn't that complex so no worries if you're like me in that regard.

We begin this novel questioning the return of a long lost sibling claiming to be the brother two the Preston girls (Laura/Bea) forty years later in DC after residing in Bangkok.

Keep the latter in mind as that detail will be important later on amongst the servants, drivers, and friends.

As we progress back to 1972 in Bangkok we uncover the truths that were so deeply personal and terrible tragedies that were kept hidden for years.

"Was it possible for a person to be truly good, who had done a horrible thing? A question that might be debated forever."

A question that was posed between Robert and Genevieve because there may be a murderer, an adulterer, a conspiracy theorist, and a driver w/o justice being handed down.

A secret that was capable of destructing, that needed to be kept, that would be passed down between generations was evident and apparent.

How could a family that appeared to have it all within the walls of perfection be so isolated, alone, and painfully broken especially knowing three children were involved in their story?
It's quite a revelation when we learn of Genevieve's hidden secret with Robert's boss but also in the escapades that Robert encountered.

To them find ourselves with Philip whose trying to find his p
lace in life after all this time was heartbreaking knowing his circumstances were grave.

The pace at which this carried on through the time frames was equally alluring as you cannot simply put this down -not when there's a damn car in the pool.

Ok, besides the car, the drivers, the drunks, the philanderers, the crooked cons, and the cheats there's a family that would forever be altered.

There's so much to latch onto here that I don't want to give much away other than to say hope springs eternal.

Much love...
