Book Review: "Daddy" By Emma Cline

Exploration of human nature is often complex and the dark mysterious side can be overlooked if placed within a shorter format without the proper anecdotes to shore it up.

For me the characters were not likeable, I couldn't become invested in the shortened feature length stories with disturbing encounter between an 11 year old and her 13 yo friend in addressing sexual desires that were heightened by the older ones unstable parents, of sibling sexual encounters, an embarrassed father via drug addiction/alcohol dependency with the torch passed on to son.

There's a clear defiance, tenacity, bullheadedness that underlies the overall themes of Emma Cline's writing that's quite apparent.

What I didn't care for was the lack of inclusion, the vivid depiction of characters, or the imagination runs wild scenario that would equate to an overall appreciation of this work.
