Book Review: "Sweet Water" By Cara Reinard

“It seems a hard standard to live up to for a lifetime. I don’t want to be the stressed companion to keep everything in pristine order. I want a more relaxed life,”

― Cara Reinard, Sweet Water

Truth be told Sarah, Martin ( Sarah's childhood sweetheart), Finn (teen son) and others have done everything they can to keep the truth under wraps yet the truth must be told - or does it?

It all begins with a call for help in the middle of the night from their teen son Finn hovered over the dead girl's body. Could drugs be involved? Alcohol? Binge drinking? After all the apple don't fall far from the tree and wasn't it Martin whose frat bro died? I'm sure Martin the pledge master was elsewhere that day...Right?

This family goes to great lengths to protect each other? Making an agreement that nothing further would be discussed about this incident nor would questions be addressed from police or her parents. This wealthy elite family could afford all the legal justice money could be because money was no object.

In fact, Sarah's past was riddled with constraints as the daughter of a single dad who married up into wealth but it wasn't all smooth sailing - just ask Josh and her other son Spencer.
Spencer in case you're wondering is off to college but he's got one humdinger of a situation with his mother to account for in terms of paternity.

What happened that awful day-the last of this young girls life? That's the thrilling question posed as we go through the past, the present, and focus in on the future with this family of apparent misfits seeking an easy life near Pittsburgh Pennsylvania in a lovely historic mansion (former boutique hotel with theatre). Will her mother ever be able to put the past behind them? Will she get the answers she seeks? Will someone else be charged in close relationship to either of these families?

Surely, Sarah and Martin aren't perfect and neither is their son but when secrets start to trickle out we realize there's something far greater, a 'brand' name that's being protected, and a cautious tale of betrayal and demise.

People have died! Finn's girlfriend is dead! The parents and grandparents and extended family not only suffered deeply but in many cases are still suffering from their hidden pasts.
A car accident took the life of the young girls father but you'll never guess who was behind the wheel. That incident resulted in so much trauma for this poor child.

Now, we learn there's plenty more secrets in the closet and they are bat shiite crazy.
When all is revealed we uncover a mother that may be uptight and anxious leaning both ways on the fence of justice. To convict, to charge, or to let go ...Bloody brilliant Cara!

Thank you to Cara, the pub, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.
