Book Review: "Gathering Dark" By Candice Fox

"A convicted killer. A gifted thief. A vicious ganglord. A disillusioned cop. Together they’re a missing girl’s only hope."

This was like the ultimate slow sizzler between how's it going & how it ended as a featured tagline.

It's extremely long and drawn out in the beginning but midway it picks up steam and begins to take shape once we establish the ground work with characters galore.
It begins with a former surgeon turned ex-con whose now helping a crooked inmate find her missing daughter.

Jessica is an LAPD cop determined to uncover the truth about a previous murder case. She's accepted a reward for finding the killer in the form of a mansion specifically Brentwood House in exchange for her services.

Yet, in the end what matters is not those 4 walls but those she wanted to help. Her true sense of self and moral compass came alive courtesy of Candice Fox as we warmed up to Jessica.
Dare I say Ada got what she probably deserved in the end along with Sneak who may or may not have gone off to Jamaica.

What's up with Tasik's car being at the airport and the information resulting from the attack upon Sneak and Jessica resulted in quite a frenzy.

The totality of circumstances was such that who knows if some of these characters would ever be located or charged but one person in particular will do everything to help another out of the current situation.

That friendship forged will include a pro bono case and testimony on the behalf of the other's expense even if it means she will have to lose it all to help another.

While I was originally going to rate this a solid 3 I bumped it up because of the ending. If you're seeking a fast thriller that you can zip through with minimal effort in character development or plot this isn't the book for you.

If you want a slow burn with an interesting story to tell & some dirty tricks of the trade with ex-cons utilizing crooked ways then you found your match.
