Book Review: "Other People's Children" By R.J. Hoffman

This was a rough one to endure as I have many friends who were unable to have natural births and couldn't afford fertility treatments.

It starts off with three mothers all trying to do what's best for their individual situation concerning this adoption entered into by the officer in charge of conducting the necessary paperwork on file named Paige.

Gail and Jon are a married couple and have just had three miscarriages with an IUD fail. Carli is a pregnant teen who finds herself in the cross hairs of signing over her parental rights or fighting for the baby. Her mother Marla has put up this ultimatum to get the baby back that she gave up for adoption or leave her home.

Jon has harsh memories of his own failed mother's relationship with him as she suffered from a bipolar disorder. The teen in this situation also has an extremely toxic mother as a parent so neither of these two come into this process free and clear without baggage.

Meanwhile, the agitation, stress, and worry is taking its toll upon these characters. All three are acting out in different ways increasing the tension, hostility, and anger towards one another.

At the heart of the battle is the idea that this couple is already suffering from the past heartbreaks so they were looking forward to this new baby and giving Maya a loving home.

Unfortunately, someone in this above scenario decided to take matters into their own hands -fleeing the country- and ignoring court action.

Everyone is now on highest alert while searching for this abducted child and nobody has stronger emotional ties than Marla as she just forked out 10 k for a safe return.

Will this work out for the best? Will baby Maya be returned? Will someone pay the ultimate price?

Can everyone just go back to normal and be happy?
Will the end result warrant a new situation in which the
'best case scenario' might come true?

Absolutely enjoyed this fab read as R.J. Hoffmann covered every based of raw human perception, feeling, and emotion.

Thank you to RJ Hoffman, the pub, NetGalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.
