Book Review: "Shakedown" By Newt Gingrich

As someone who has read numerous thrillers from a variety of authors many with experience in this genre-I'm pleased to say-this wasn't bad and in fact it kept me entertained.

I'm not a huge fan of Newt Gingrich nor politics and I think he did well in partnering up on this project but it incorporated a current interest in dangerous Russian oligarchs and Iranian Jihadists as the backdrop for the reign of terror.

This coupled with the fact there were plenty of strong willed female roles resulted in an exceptional read with quick evenly paced action and characters that were multi-dimensional.

Collusion was the first in the Mayberry and Garrett series as Shakedown builds up that ratcheting tension and suspense. I've not yet read Collusion but this did stand well on its own.
I've since placed a hold on Collusion at my local library.

The thickening plot played well into the hands of all parties involved.

"Is Iran playing us for fools, again? Or are they undermining some other enemy? Can a dysfunctional Washington do the right thing to protect the country? Will political infighting at the FBI grind the investigation to a halt? Will Mayberry and Garrett find the truth before innocent lives are lost?"

Valerie Mayberry and Brett Garrett are on the mends to repairing their reputation and saving lives.

A true thriller!
